Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a wife to an amazing husband, I love to cook, I served a full-time mission in the Romania/ Moldova mission, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a newly-married student studying Recreation Management. I absolutely love my life! My husband and I enjoy playing frisbee and are currently on an intramural team. I love cooking and baking, although I don't have as much time as I would like to do it. I love finding new creative outlets, either with crafts, activities, or planning events. I'm the youngest in a family of six. We no longer live that close to each other, but we love getting together when we can. I especially love spending time with my neices and nephew! They're all so adorable.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, however, that is not the only reason I am a member of the church. I have been blessed to receive a witness of the power of the Atonement in my life. I know that Christ suffered for our sins that we may be forgiven of them. I know that we can return to live with Christ and Heavenly Father after this life if we use the Atonement in our life. Christ can save us from the guilt and regrets as we seek Him and repent of our sins. Through the Atonement, Christ can heal our wounds. When we are hurt by another we can forgive them, even if it seems impossible. Christ loves us. He suffered and died for us. He wants us to return to Him. He pleads our cause with the Father. We can be healed. We can receive power to resist temptation. Most of all, we can find happiness and joy in this life. There is no other way to obtain everlasting joy except through repentance and faith in Christ and His Atonement. I have also gained a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. I know it is the word of God and that by living the commandments found in the pages we can come closer to Him. Our knowledge and understanding is expounded and we continually receive greater light as we diligently study and ponder the Book of Mormon. I know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and restored the gospel of Jesus Christ and His church on the earth. I know he was a true prophet of God. I am a Mormon because the Holy Ghost has witnessed unto me that these things are true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday both personally and socially. Each morning I pray to my Heavenly Father and read my scriptures. Throughout the day I try to lift others up and brighten their day in hopes that I will bring them something to hope for. I also have the opportunity to visit other girls in my ward to bring them a message that may help them in their lives to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ more fully. I try my best to support them in all they need. I am serving a mission and serving the Lord by bringing others to the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Atonement.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Melissa
The Atonement of Christ is Christ's sacrifice for us. It is a gift He has given to us and wants us to use. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Christ felt each of our afflictions, our pains, our worries. It is impossible to comprehend all that He felt. He finished His sacrifice on the cross, sealing His suffering with His blood. All of this was done willingly because He loves us. The Atonement is a gift to us. In Doctrine and Covenants 88:33 it says, "For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift." Christ wants us to use His gift. He suffered and died for us that we may return to him. The only way we can return to live with Heavenly Father is through repentance. True repentance can only occur when the Atonement of Christ is used. However, repentance of sins is not the only use of the Atonement. We can use Christ's gift to forgive. When we have been wronged in any way, Christ's Atonement can heal our hearts. He suffered all our pains. He has felt what we feel. He knows what we're going through. When we allow Him to heal us we come closer to Him and trust in Him. No greater happiness can be found in this life than the happiness we receive through the Atonement. It is impossible to comprehend all that can come because of it. Use it. The gift Christ has given to us will change your life. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Melissa
We can increase our faith in Christ, first, by praying and studying the scriptures. This is such an essential step in increasing faith. As soon as we begin to do this we start to see the blessings of our Heavenly Father more in our life. We begin to understand His will for us more and we begin to understand everything He has given to us. We start to know our Savior, Jesus Christ, more and gain a greater desire to follow Him. Once we have this desire, we need to act. Acting on what we learn shows our Heavenly Father that we really do want to do His will. Faith is acting, and obtaining a hope that through our actions, Heavenly Father will bless us. One of the most important actions we need to perform is to repent. As we repent we show our Heavenly Father that we believe He can heal us through the Atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ. Sometimes those blessings come immediately, sometimes they come later, and sometimes they don't come until heaven, but as long as we have faith, they will come. Show more Show less
