Hi I'm Richard Walshaw

I'm a Husband and Father. I'm an Urban Designer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 33 and have been married to Beth for 6 years, she is full of life and makes me happy! We have two children together, my daughter Rory is almost 5 and my son Austin is 2. In work I lead a team of fellow Urban Designers, designing large new housing developments across the UK. I was raised in the Church of England by my Dad, who sowed the seeds of my faith and taught me Christian values which prepared me to recognise the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ later in my life. I still enjoy a close relationship with my parents today which is very important to me. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 17 and it has shaped my life for the better, and this is how I met my wife Beth. Before meeting Beth, and after graduating from University I served a 2 year voluntary mission for the church (aged 22) in South Africa which left me with many wonderful memories and a love for the African people. I have a passion for travel, architecture, golf and football. I still play football every Saturday for a local team and have made the move into helping out with the management of the team as I become one of the more "experienced" members of the squad!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I saw when I was just a boy of 17 that the church offered me something more than I already had. I felt that the teachings and the way of life taught by the church, and lived by friends who were members of the church was something I wanted for my own life. I had a very secure upbringing and a very close relationship with my parents and brother, which remain today, but my membership in the church has just added so much more depth, enjoyment and meaning to my life The things that are unique to the Church such as the Book of Mormon are true, The Book of Mormon has strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ as I have studied it alongside the Bible and as two witnesses from two different continents they compliment each other perfectly. As I have followed the principles of the gospel I have found peace and confidence which I believe has helped me achieve success in my life. I'm a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ and strive to follow him as best I can. I'm a Mormon because I want to be with my family forever. I'm a Mormon because I believe the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth to bless us and to provide a place of refuge, strength and support at a time when we need it the most, at a time when it takes more courage to believe than to disbelieve.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by teaching my family the principles of the gospel such as kindness, love and respect for all people. We try to pray and read the scriptures as a family each day. I live my faith simply by trying my best to lift and serve those around me in whatever everyday situations I find myself in. I also serve in the church and I currently work with the youth (teenagers) and we talk about the gospel in a way that relates to their lives. I encourage them to be different, but in a good way, to be confident in their beliefs and to set their standards high, to work hard and seek education and of course we organise a lot of activities where they invite their friends from school or neighbourhood just to come and join in the fun.
