Hi I'm LeGrande

I live in Southern California. I am a lawyer. I'm a husband and father. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am sports fan, both playing a watching. My favorite to watch is college football (USC and BYU), but also Lakers basketball and Angels baseball. I love to be active. I work with my hands, mostly on home improvement projects. I am a car nut. My wife says I need a warehouse, not a garage, for all the classic cars I would like to own. I love to see the beauty of nature. Our family vacations have often involved seeing the beauty of nature, from camping in the Sequoia National Forest, to sunrise at Haleakala Volcano in Hawaii, to soaking in the magnificence of Yellowstone. I love my family. The most fun I have is when I am with family -- the more family the better!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, but I did not always believe, or follow, the teachings of the Church. As I was growing up I often heard adults say that the knew without a doubt that the Church and its teachings were true. Those were bold, powerful statements to me. But I did not know. In high school a friend who was of another faith challenged what I had been taught. I decided to find out for myself what was true. So I studied and prayed and talked to many people, trying to find my way. Finally I decided to read the Book of Mormon. It includes a promise that we can know for ourselves, from God, not from man, that it is true. "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." So I read the Book of Mormon several times. I prayed daily asking God to know if it was true. I did my best to live the teachings of Jesus Christ. And I exercised faith, and acted on that faith. When I was ready, God kept his promise, and manifested to me, through the power of the Holy Ghost, that the Book of Mormon was true. Now I can say, like millions of others, that I know the Church is true, that God is real, that Jesus Christ is my Savior and he lives. God keeps his promises. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Living my faith means more to me than attending meetings on Sunday. I enjoy helping others, and there are opportunities every day to help. For example, last summer I helped repair and paint the home of an older couple who could not do the work themselves. Last month my wife and I sang in a musical drama called "Savior of the World, His Birth and Resurrection", and thousands of people came to the shows and were moved to see the stories of Jesus enacted live. Last week I was able to visit two couples in their homes who have health challenges, due to old age in one case and due to diseases in the other. Visiting them lifted their spirits, and mine as well. I always feel good when I am helping others. I make a point of praying to God each day. I know He hears and answers prayers with what I need. I make a point of reading the teachings of Jesus in the scriptures each day.
