Hi I'm Jamar

I love music and sports and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a very competitive individual in most things that I do. I got started playing piano when I was about 9 or 10 years old and have expanded my musical talents to include organ and accordion. I have attended accordion competitions for the past six years, I passed my grade 8 piano exam and grade 2 theory to go with it, and I was the feature organist of an organ concert when I was in grade 9 and also play organ for our weekly church services. I love sports as well and used to play a lot of soccer but have focused on volleyball and basketball throughout middle school and high school. I have played with the varsity team in both sports since grade 10 and love the challenge that sports has provided. I have worked hard in the scouting program and have achieved my cheif scout and queen venture awards and done a lot of cool things with that. I also do alright in school and maintain honour role and am looking at becoming a biomedical enginee when I get back from my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

A lot of people rely on others to helpl them to make major decisions in their lives. I am no different. I was born and raised in the church and was baptized at 8 years old. This is all rather ordinary but what I will always be grateful for is that my parents helped me to read the whole Book of Mormon before I got baptized. We had to start this project quite early to finish in time and for a 6 year old kid who is only in grade one, this is a big book to try and get through. At the time I did not remember much about the stories that I was reading bit I do remember how it all finished. As I finished the book my Dad (who was helping me read) and I knelt down and took Moroni's challenge. I prayed and asked God if the teachings in the book were true. When I finished the prayer it didn't take long for me to get emotional and I started crying. It is not easy to explian but I just knew that the Book of Mormon was true. I didn't know exactly what I was feeling at the time but I have since started to better understand the feelings of the Holy Ghost. Life has forced me to my knees a good amount of times since then and every time I have been able to find what I am looking for whether it be comfort, or guidance, or direction in my life. I have a testimony of prayer and of personal revelation. I know that anyone can get answers to prayer and that if you try to come closer to God that he will come closer to you and you will feel of his love in your life and that it will bring you complete happiness and joy. I know that it's true and am learning how God can make so much more of me than I could alone.

How I live my faith

It is quite easy to get involved in church activities and there are a lot of great programs for the youth. I have gone through the whole scouting program (cubs, scouts, ventures) and have had the oppertunity to work with a lot of great people doing a lot of cool things. I have been able to do lots of service projects for the community and for members of my family. I have had oppertunities to learn how to teach gospel princepals and doctrines to members and nonmembers alike. One of the easiest ways that I live my faith is by going to church, read my scriptures, pray, going to seminary, and by doing all those other basic things that you would think a religous person would do. I enjoy coming to church and often playing the organ for the meetings because all these basic actions have brought me great joy in my life.
