Hi I'm Alistair Rae

I was a military musician. I play Oboe and guitar. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married to Lily since 1969. We have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. I was a military musician with The Gordon Highlanders Military Band playing Oboe and guitar. Then I was the Oboe Specialist Instructor for Aberdeenshire Schools. I then had my own businesses for 20 years. In 1991 I decided to go to university and graduated with a post graduate diploma in management studies. Then commenced an MBA at Heriot-Watt University & Edinburgh Business School. I still play guitar and play most days. I love studying the scriptures especially the Bible.I have a date every week with my wife and we pray together daily. Our son Jason died in 2008 which we found very hard to cope with but our testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ saw us through.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert and I was taught about the church by 2 missionaries. They asked me to pray and ask God if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if he was telling the truth. I had never prayed before so they taught me. I got this great feeling and I knew he was telling the truth. He did speak to God the Father and Jesus Christ. I have read the Bible several times and I know it is the word of God. I have also read and studied the Book of Morman many times and I know that it is the word of God too. I get great happiness from living my religion on a daily basis.

How I live my faith

I have served in the LDS Church since 1965 in a variety of positions including teaching youth and adults. I have presided over a branch of the church and also served on two Stake Presidencies (a dioces). I lead choirs and conduct music in various meetings. I visit assigned families on a monthly basis to care for their temporal and spiritual needs. These opportunities have allowed me to gain great experience in leadership and in serving the Lord and my brothers and sisters in the church. This has all given me great joy and happiness. We do not have a paid ministry.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Alistair Rae
Mormon is a knickname which comes from the Book of Mormon a new book of scripture which is a second witness for Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints is the proper name of the church. There is no such organisation as The Mormon Church! Show more Show less
