Hi I'm Graham

I am a husband, father, grandfather, tax accountant and a Mormon.

About Me

I am now in my mid 50s having been a member of the Church over 30 years. I grew up in a family with no strong religious beliefs. I gained an Honours degree in science from Cambridge University and qualifed as a chartered accountant. A short while later I met missionaries from the Church and joined. I then qualified as a member of the Institute of Taxation. I am now a partner in a firm of chartered accountants specialising in providing tax advice. I met my wife through the Church and have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. I was introduced to genealogy through the Church and have a strong interest in this having built up my own tree extensively and have also helped a number of others build their trees. Outside Church and genealogy my main interest is computer games.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I had a comfortable, worry free life before I met Church missionaries, I had a feeling that there was something missing although I could not understand what. I had been brought up in the Church of England but I did not have a strong belief in God. The missionaries taught me to pray and I had feelings that I had never experienced before. When challenged to be baptised I did not know that the Church was true but I had a strong feeling that I should press forward or I would never gain a surer knowledge. So I chose to be baptised. Over the next few months my conviction that the Church was true grew stronger and stronger. Today I have no shadow of doubt. I can remember thinking that the missing feeling had disappeared. I had found my answer. There have been odd times in my life when I have felt like running away from everything but I know I can never hide from God. Being within the Church is so important to me that I cannot imagine what life would be without it.

How I live my faith

I have been active in the Church during my membership serving in many different positions. I have learned so much as a result. It has benefitted my professional life giving me the confidence to speak to large groups of people which I have done often both inside and outside the Church. I struggled to speak to small groups when I first joined! The Church forms an important part of my life - not just on Sundays. I served for 20 years as a governor at the local Primary school. I am a volunteer for Tax Help for Older People.
