Hi I'm Ian

I grew up in North Bay, Ontario. I moved to Newfoundland two years ago to work for The Arthrtitis Society. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Northern Ontario. At 18, I moved to Nova Scotia to attend Cape Breton University. During my studies at Cape Breton University I took part in a student exchange to South Africa. Best 6 months of my life. Following my exchange I became President of Cape Breton University Students`Union. After Cape Breton University, I moved to Halifax where I received a Masters of Arts in International Development Studies from Dalhousie. I have lived in 4 provinces and even lived in Nunavut for three months. Currently, I am living in Alberta and working for NorQuest College. I love to be active and travel. If it is sunny I am outside hiking or canoeing. My goal is to travel from Cape Town to Cairo Egypt one summer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church. However, it wasn't until I was 26 when I finally gained a testimony of the gospel. I always believed in God but it wasn't until I was 24 when I realized that believing in God was not enough. So I turned to the Bible. Knowing that God would not just send me to the Earth with no instructions. The answer of how I should live my life and what church is true must be in the Bible. After reading and studying the Bible I began to attend other churches. As my understanding grew in the Bible I just felt that the other churches were not correct. When I finished the Bible I started to believe that the Mormon Church may be the true Church. But I wasn't sure about the Book of Mormon. So I started meeting with missionaries and began to read the Book of Mormon. It was not a quick conversion as I was skeptical of the Book of Mormon. But as I continued to study the Book of Mormon and meet with the missionaries I became less skeptic. After months of reading and praying one day I broke down wanting to know if it was true and if it was I would follow it. In that moment the song I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ played in my head. I felt at peace as I just listened to the word over and over again. I knew than the Lord had answered my prayer and I no longer could deny the Church. Since that day I have faced many trails but I have never questioned the Book of Mormon or being a Mormon. This is God's Church and I want to be on his side. And that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I attend church every week and read my scriptures everyday. I was recently called as the Executive Secretary and try to follow this calling to the best of my ability. This role has allowed me to work with some of the greatest people I have ever met and increased my understanding of the gospel. The role keeps me young as I get to interact with so many great young adults. I love this calling as it not only teaches me about the gospel but it also teaches me how to live it.
