Hi I'm Ash

I am a total nerd. I am a huge baseball fan. And while my family may not be, I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a total nerd. I love Doctor Who, Firefly (or anything by Joss Whedon). I love to play board games, card games and dice games with my friends. I love baseball (go Red Sox) and football (lets go Pats). I love going to games with my friends, hanging out and having a good time. I am a fairly typical young adult who loves to be goofy and silly. I started looking for God in my life at the age of 9. I went to the local Baptist church for over a year. Then, I met the missionaries. My family didn't care for the church I had joined and it became a difficult topic in my house. Finding a way to get to church and going by myself was hard. I was able to stay strong with the help of my church family. I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, everything it is about, all it stands for and how it helps bring people closer to Christ. It is my source of strength and peace.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because at 10 years old I found truth, God & Christ and hung onto it. It wasn't easy either. I did & still have opposition from my family. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true & literal church that Christ Himself established. I know God & Christ live. I know that they love me. I know that there is a living prophet on the Earth, President Thomas S. Monson. I know that there are 14 men that hold the apostolic keys with him, the same keys Christ himself had & delegated out to His Apostles. I know that the Bible & The Book of Mormon are the word of God, that by following the counsel given in them, we can return to be with our Father in Heaven again. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He atoned for & took upon Himself our sins, so that we may return to our Father. I know that because of a 14 year old boy's honest prayer, the gospel of Christ was restored. I know that Joseph Smith Jr was the chosen to restore Christ's church & that because of his faith, devotion, dedication & sacrifice, we are able to learn of God & Christ & their teachings. I know that as I follow the teachings of modern & ancient prophets & apostle, I will return to my Heavenly Father again. I invite you to read the Book of Mormon & to speak with the missionaries. I invite you to ask questions & learn for yourselves these truths that I know & hold so dear. I leave you this challenge & my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday, or at least I try my best to. I accept any calling or assignment that is asked of me. I spent many years teaching in primary (children's Sunday School), mostly 18 months to 4 years old. I loved being able to reinforce the lessons these children are learning at home. My favorite part is when they come in the next week and tell me a story about our previous lesson. I love participating in service project. We have an on going project with a group of the most wonderful people in our community who need a little extra love and attention. I try to live as Christ would live. I know I am no where even remotely close to leading my life as He did, but He is the example I try to follow. I try to remember Him in all I do and try to act as I think He would act.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

The church's official answer is quite right. I can really attest to this. I was struggling financially at one point. I wasn't sure how I was going to make ends meet. But I didn't have to worry about what or how I was going to eat. I had food storage. I had enough to last me about 6 months and I lived off of it for a couple months. The money I didn't need to spend on food, I was able to allocate into other bills. After a couple months, I was in a better circumstance. Because I went to bed every night fed, not having to worry were my next meal was going to come from, I could focus on what I needed to do to get into a better situation. All because I was prepared. If I were to loose my apartment for some reason, like all the wild fires where I live, I will have a place to stay, clothing, food & a way to cook it, water & a way to purify it and necessary documentation I may need, all in an easy to get to spot, that I can grab as I leave. I am prepared and I can't express the comfort that brings me. I don't have to worry about the "what ifs" as they come up because I already thought about them and am prepared. Show more Show less
