Hi I'm Katie

I was born and raised in Utah. I come from a family of 12 children. I'm a convert to the church, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading, writing, singing, camping, horseback riding, blogging, and spending time with my friends and family. My favorite color is blue. My favorite food is homemade enchiladas, and I love just about any type of ice cream. I'm currently studying Spanish at Brigham Young University (BYU), and this fall I will be starting a full-time mission to Washington D.C..

Why I am a Mormon

I'm Mormon because the missionaries knocked on my door and shared with me and my family what was most important to them in their lives. They invited us to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is true. I took the challenge, received my answer that it is indeed true, and decided to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone possessing the priesthood authority of God. I know the church is true. I know that we are all children of a loving Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. He atoned for all our sins because he loves us. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that President Monson is a prophet today. The Book of Mormon is true. It was translated by Joseph Smith through the power of God. I testify that the gospel of Jesus Christ is for all of us, and when we follow it, it will bring peace and happiness to our lives.

How I live my faith

I am currently living my faith by serving a full-time mission in Washington DC. I'm so grateful for this opportunity I have been given to share my knowledge of Jesus Christ, and how he has atoned for our sins so that we can return to our Heavenly Father someday.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

This is something I always struggled with when I was first investigating the church. How can you know someone you haven't met (or at least, don't remember meeting)? Although we may not remember our Heavenly Father from our premortal life, He gives us everything we need to communicate with him and learn to know and love Him while in this life. He gives us a living prophet to guide us in this dispensation, He gives us the scriptures, and we are also able to communicate with Him personally through prayer. In addition to growing close to our Heavenly Father through prayer and scriptures, members of the church are also given the opportunity to receive a patriarchal blessing, which can outline specific, and personal blessings in our lives (I kind of look at it as our own, personal scriptures). When I got my patriarchal blessing, I was able to more fully realize that Heavenly Father loves each and every one of His children so much. He is in the details of our lives and wants us to keep His commandments and remain close to Him so that we may receive eternal blessings. Show more Show less
