Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a High School student. I love to read, to write and to play musical instruments. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading, writing and playing musical instruments. I'm currently in high school. Afterwards, I hope to serve as a missionary for the LDS Church and then study Theology and Religious Studies at university. I plan on pursuing a PhD in religious studies and hopefully becoming a lecturer. I have a deep and abiding interest in all religions of the world. I play the piano and the french horn, and I'm in the concert band at my school as well as the County Band. I am a vegetarian. I also have a strong interest in politics. I spent my childhood in lots of different places in the UK and then spent four years living in Australia before moving back to the UK. In my spare time, I really enjoy reading. I have too many favourite books to list in a reasonable amount of space! I hate the texture of cotton wool. I love debating and enjoy public speaking.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS Church. From a very early age, I have been interested in the 'big questions', the most meaningful ones, the answers to which determine the way we see ourselves, the world around us and our fellow human beings. In the LDS Church, I have always found deeply satisfying answers to these questions, sometimes handed to me with little or no effort on my part and sometimes only after many hours of prayer and personal study. Either way, they always come, and they are always satisfying. However, ultimately, I believe what I believe because I have had numerous experiences in the past, which I would describe as spiritual experiences, which have left me with an undeniable conviction that God lives; that He loves me, my family, and all His children and creatures infinitely and unconditionally; that His greatest desire is for us to obtain true peace, happiness and joy; and that these can be found most abundantly in following the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These convictions, amongst others, are the reason I live my life as a member of the LDS Church.

How I live my faith

I am a Priest, which has a slightly different meaning in the LDS Church than it does in other Christian churches. Along with one other young man, I pray over and consecrate the sacrament (equivalent to Communion in other churches) each Sunday. I also have authority to baptise. These are some of my more notable duties as a Priest. I also participate in my Church in ways which are common to all Latter-day Saints, and are not limited to my role as a Priest. For example, from time to time I am sometimes asked by the Bishop of the congregation (roughly equivalent to a Pastor in other Christian churches) to give a talk or sermon. I also help to organise and carry out service projects along with other young men my age, as well as other fun and useful activities.
