Hi I'm Beka

I grew up in Arizona in the valley of the sun. I'm a racquetball player and a college student and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I would say one of my first loves is racquetball as I played on my college club team. National championships this year were so cool to watch and participate in as I got to see so many awesome players. After this I would say that I love my mechanical engineering classes, especially those for math and programming. I love the logic and attention to detail it requires and the challenges it presents. I knew I wanted to do engineering when I did a project where my group had to design a canoe made out of cardboard and duct tape and race it across a pool. The process of designing, building, and finishing these canoes was so much fun, but getting out of class to race it across a pool was pretty cool, too. Another part of my life I enjoy is Insitute where I take religious classes. I have learned so much from this and from the teachers there, plus they often give out free food and have fun activities. I'd say college has been one of the highlights of my life so far.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because I know that this is God's church. I didn't always believe even though I was raised in the church, but when I was 14 I came to a point in my life where I needed to know if God was there and if He loved me. I remember praying and simply asking if He was there and the answer came in a feeling in my heart and an impression on my mind. It was yes. My relationship with God has only strengthened as I have put my trust in Him. I love Him and I know that He loves me and that He will never steer me wrong or fail to bless me. I know this through personal revelation and have had it reaffirmed to me many times. It is hard to describe the joy and peace that knowing this gives me and the joy I experience when I know that what I am doing is pleasing unto God. My desire to know Him and do His will has lead me to also know that the prophet of our day is His prophet, that the Book of Mormon is true and His words to us, that Jesus Christ also lives and loves us with a perfect love, and that we can do all things through Him and be made clean. My life is so blessed by this knowledge.

How I live my faith

I have served in pretty simple callings in my ward. I've been Relief Society pianist and the visiting teaching district supervisor. I've also been an indexer which was simple and fun and I did it on my own time. I'd say that my favorite service in the church was when I was called as ward food specialist. I was in charge of buying, preparing, and serving food for all events such as linger longers with the help of my committee. Learning how to do this was a fun challenge and I really enjoyed when the day was over and everyone was fed and content.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe God has power to do all things and has a glorified body of flesh and bones and spirit. We are made in His image as we are His children. He loves us and knows us as a father knows his children. His greatest desire is for us to live with Him forever after this life and possess all the blessings and joy He does. I know that God reaches out to all of us personally and is mindful of every detail of our lives. Show more Show less
