Hi I'm Rae

I grew up in Maryland. I attend Brigham Young University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I attend a college out in Utah that has over 30,000 students. Talk about a small fish in a big pond. I just recently switched my major to Chemical Engineering. Right now I will be putting off school for a little bit to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bolivia. I am a sister in a big family. I love to run and play other sports like basketball, volleyball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. I love watching sports too! I like to watch movies. I also like music! I can sing and play the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents did a great job of exemplifying what it means to act on faith. In our home we were taught the gospel of Jesus Christ. My parents taught us that if we ever had a question that we should pray about it and read the scriptures to find our answers. In the scriptures we read that "by the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things" (Moroni 10:5). To me, I feel the Holy Ghost manifest truth when it makes sense in my mind and my heart feels confident. When I read the scriptures or hear the prophets and apostles speak, I feel that without a doubt that these men who testify that Jesus Christ live, truly are special witnesses. If Joseph Smith had not seen God and Jesus Christ, then he sure put his life down on the line for nothing. When I think of that and reflect on how I feel when I heat testimonies of the living Christ, that how I know this gospel is true.

How I live my faith

I really like serving and using my talents and skills to serve. After church I really enjoy joining a bunch of my friend to go sing to those that are at the rehab center down the street who would like their day to be brightened. I attend church every week. At church I help with planning activities that will help strengthen the sisterhood within the ward. For the next 18 months however, I will be serving as a missionary in Bolivia. I will be doing what the Savior did when He was on Earth, serving, teaching, baptizing, etc. I will be leaving behind all personal affairs. This will be a time of 100% dedication to the Lord.

What is the First Vision?

Rae
Joseph Smith, as a boy, was distraught with the thought of which church was true. He lived among several churches, all saying they were the true church however they all conflicted with each other thus making it impossible to know. One day as he was reading the Bible he came across a scripture, James 1:5 that says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, which giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him". He felt that if anyone lacked knowledge it was him, so he decided to pray. Soon there after, on a spring morning, Joseph went into the grove of trees behind his house to pray to God to know which church was true. As he prayed, He saw God the Father and Jesus Christ. Joseph recounts, "When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!”" He was told to not join any of the other churches. None of the churches had the right authority and much of the gospel which the Savior had taught when he was on Earth was lost over time. Joseph Smith really did see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and his vision was only the beginning of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
