Hi I'm Johnny

I live in Dundee, Scotland and I'm a Mormon!!!

About Me

I am a Care Support Worker at a private residential school for children with additional needs and support. I have been married (as of 2013) for 27 years to my beautiful wife and we were sealed together for time and all eternity in the London Temple in February 1986. We have two wonderful daughters and a grandson who is the "light of our life". I am a keen football (soccer) fan and like nothing better than cheering on my team to victory. I also enjoy musical theatre and travelling to exciting world locations when the opportunity to do so arises.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was baptized in 1950 and has embraced the gospel ever since. She has always been a great example and source of inspiration and faithful service to me. I have been a member of the church all of my life having been "blessed" as a baby and baptized when I was 8 years old. I had a wee "rebellious" period in my life when I fell away from the church for 5 years and experienced much of what the world had to offer. I came back to church after a period of "inactivity" when I was 21 years old and was blessed with many spiritual witnesses as to the personal pathway that I should walk in life. I was blessed with a personal "testimony" founded on five key points - 1) I know that God lives and is my Heavenly Father. 2) I know that Jesus Christ is God's Son and is the Saviour of the world. He atoned for everyone's sins making it possible for us to repent and return to live with our Heavenly Father. 3) Joseph Smith is a Prophet, called by God to restore the true Church of Jesus Christ to the earth after a long period of apostasy (spiritual darkness). Through him, the gospel has been restored in it's fullness and entirety, including authority from God to administer Priesthood ordinances which brings about salvation and exaltation for all of God's children. 4) The Book of Mormon is a companion volume of scripture to the Bible and testifies of the mission and divinity of Jesus Christ. 5) God continues to call living Prophets in this modern era.

How I live my faith

I was privileged to serve as a full time missionary in the Canada Calgary Mission in 1983-84. I look back on that time as a choice experience in my life as I introduced the gospel to many people and participated in their own personal life changing period as they accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ and were subsequently baptized having received their own unique spiritual witness. I have served in many voluntary callings over the years, and I was blessed to serve as a Bishop of my home ward for 5 years. This allowed me to become very personally involved with local church members who shared their joys, trials, successes, disappointments and testimonies with me in a very personal way. What a great privilege to serve the Lord and His children in this manner. I enjoy attending Church social activities and events where people gather to participate in cultural, musical, dance and sporting events in an environment that can be enjoyed equally by children, youth, adults and senior citizens alike. As a member of the church, I am also encouraged to be an example of Christlike living within the community in which I live. I have no problem in letting people know that I am a Mormon (a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and that I should behave as the Lord expects me to as a baptized member of His church. I am by no means perfect, but I am "trying to be like Jesus" as our Primary children sing as one of their anthems, the best I can.
