Hi I'm Alyssa

I love learning languages. I'm going to school to become a teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to understand Spanish, so I began studying Spanish in High School. Within a couple of years I became fluent enough to travel to Honduras with some Honduran friends and spend a week immersing myself in the language and culture. Since then I've studied French and become conversational, and have begun studying both Italian and Latin. Since starting my mission in May 2013, I have also become fluent in Hungarian. I love to sing and play the piano. I also really like listening to all kinds of music, but most especially jazz! Reading is another big part of my life. I also love playing sports with friends. Last but not least, I've just finished my sophomore year of college as I study to become a teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family and learned the gospel from a very young age. I always felt that it was true and right, but I decided to make sure I knew that it was true for myself when I was 9. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed and felt very sure inside as the Holy Ghost told me it was true. Since then, I've had many experiences that have strengthened my testimony of many different parts of the gospel and I continue to feel that this gospel is truly the full, restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel that is taught in this church and in the scriptures we read bring me immense happiness, even when life gets hard! My testimony of this gospel doesn't make trials and hardships stop coming, but my knowledge of the truth carries me and makes it easier to bear hard things!

How I live my faith

I do my best to live what I learn from the gospel of Jesus Christ in my everyday life. Remembering my Savior and developing Christ-like attributes are main focuses in my life. In church, I've taught our congregation's adult Sunday School class, visit with and serve other women in my congregation as a Visiting Teacher, and was asked to lead and coordinate a musical skit done by members of our ward as part of a stake-wide activity. Recently, I've become more interested and involved in family history work and genealogy. I've also decided to serve a mission for 18 months to share the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ with others on a full-time basis. I started that mission at the end of last May in 2013 and I´m serving in Hungary.
