Hi I'm Rach

I call New Zealand home, but would live in a tree if i could. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from New Zealand! I just finished a masters degree in ecology, specialising in plant reproduction (probably shouldn't have said that first, I generally lose my audience after that line). It sounds nerdy, but it isn't. Its actually the most wonderful thing - climbing trees, and being amazed by nature. I love how everything in nature seems to testify of the God that created them. I also have a great love for music and play mostly piano and organ, but a bit of saxophone and flute too. I have been a music teacher for the last four years and absolutely love it. My greatest love though are my family. I am the 5th of 6 kids and the last one to leave the nest. My 2 brothers and 3 sisters are all married and have blessed my life with 14 of the cutest nieces and nephews ever seen. My family are my friends and flat-mates too and we have a lot of fun together. I believe that families can be together forever - not just this life - so I'm looking forward to eternity with them.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, I love being a Mormon! I love it because honestly I am so happy, like I am filled to bursting with this deep joy and I know that has come from living the principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints which have brought me close to God. I was raised in a family who are also Mormons, but have always been encouraged to seek answers for myself - so that is what I have done. I remember the first time I truly asked God if He was there, if the Book of Mormon was true, and if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was truly from Him. I was 12 years old. I knelt down in a private spot in my back yard and just asked. I was scared that angels would come down or something, but the answer I got was an ultimate peaceful feeling and I heard a voice in my heart say "You already know". I realised that I did already know because so many times God had heard and answered my prayers before. Ten years later and God is still answering my prayers with a kindness that testifies to me that He is really is my Heavenly Father who won't leave me alone if I just seek Him.

How I live my faith

I smile - a lot! My faith in God and my commitment to live the way that He wants me to live makes me so happy, sometimes I feel like I'm just glowing or something! It doesn't mean that life is any easier - no way! I still have challenges and obstacles, but my faith changes the way that I react to those challenges. Because I know that I am a daughter of God and that He loves me and is interested in my life and wants to help me I feel like nothing is impossible for me. What an empowering thought! I heard once that being humble isn't thinking less of yourself, it's thinking less about yourself and more about others. I try and do that. I also play the piano and organ for our church choirs and for the Sunday meetings of our local congregation, spent 4 years as a mentor for a young womens group - planning activities and training local young womens leaders, and also spent some time as a family history consultant helping people to put together their own genealogical research. I am about to embark on 18 months of full-time missionary service in Florida and can't wait!
