Hi I'm Linda Cates

I'm a grandma living in Richland, WA, USA. I'm blessed with 4 loving children and 6 amazing grandchildren. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My favorite activities include watching Mariners' baseball, BYU Cougars football, basketball, and volleyball . . . Go Cougs. As often as possible, I kidnap my amazing 6 grandchildren (2, 6, 10, 12, 14, and 16) and spoil them rotten before returning them to their previously spoiled parents. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, sewing, We have lived and worked in Richland, Washington for the past 28 years and enjoy the small-town feel but still have all the amenities one could want. I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but moved to Tacoma, Washington when I was 4. Graduated from Stadium High School in and was blessed to graduate from BYU Provo with a BS in Business Education which has allowed me to share the joy of helping others advance their education. Married my prince charming in the Cardston Alberta Temple and added our 2 beautiful daughters and 2 fun-loving boys.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents have been lifelong members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I was born in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City and was raised as a Mormon youth. My faith in God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, has always been strong. Like every individual, however, a solid testimony of the restoration of Christ's church to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith after the great apostasy must be obtained personally through prayer and study. This truly occurred for me when I was living away from home going to college. The Spirit witnessed to me through fasting, prayer, and personal study that the Book of Mormon is a second witness of Jesus Christ and was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith for our day. As I have honored my baptismal covenants and temple covenants through my daily life, my faith and testimony have grown stronger. Watching my family work toward becoming an eternal family through obedience to the Lord's commandments has witnessed to me the divine love that can be ours from our loving Heavenly Father and our Savior if we endure to the end of this life's journey. I have personally experienced the empowering gift of repentance and know that my eternal success is achievable.

How I live my faith

I will be leaving on an LDS mission to London, England in May and will be excited to serve the Lord and the people of England for 18 months. It will be hard to be away from my kids, grandkids, and friends, but will be very rewarding, giving me the blessing of serving others. For the past few months I have had the privilege of being a temple worker in the Columbia River Temple and have been so blessed to associate with spiritual giants serving with me. Giving the gift of baptism and eternal blessings to those who did not have that opportunity in this life is a true joy. It has also been my joy to teach the young Mia Maid girls each Sunday. I am truly the one who learns more from them each week. Teaching them that they are children of a loving Heavenly Father and beloved of the Savior is challenging and very rewarding. Other ways I get to serve is through monthly visits with 3 women who live in Richland. This gives me an opportunity to grow as friends and serve in small ways. My greatest opportunity is to help care for my elderly parents who have given their entire lives to me and the rest of our family.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Linda Cates
The happiest day of my life was the day I was married for eternity to my sweetheart, Michael, in the Cardston Alberta Temple. This sacred ceremony ensures me that if we accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ, keep the commandments, and endure to the end of our lives here, we will be together forever with our 4 wonderful children. Now that my sweetheart of 38 years has passed away, this eternal blessing gives me great hope, confidence, and joy as I continue on my journey here without his physical presence. Even though I miss him daily, I know that we will be together for eternity. Show more Show less
