Hi I'm Jane Birch

I’m a book lover, scholar, and Mac enthusiast. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of nine kids. I attended Brigham Young University and served a mission in Taiwan. I now do faculty development at Brigham Young University. It’s a great place to be.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a seeker for truth. I have an endless appetite for learning. I'm grateful to work at BYU where I'm surrounded by interesting people and ideas. But more than learning new things, I love becoming a new person. I love the type of learning that helps me change, to be better. I was born in the LDS Church with a testimony of God. I loved being a Mormon before I realized I was one! Being a seeker of truth, I have found in my religion an endless source of opportunities to learn and to grow. I also love to learn from many other truth traditions. God blesses all of His children with amazing gifts and insights. The insights He gave the Prophet Joseph Smith are particularly rich. I have spent my entire life trying to plumb the depths of the Gospel as restored by Joseph Smith, and the boundaries just keep expanding! The longer I live, the more sure knowledge I have that God lives, that He loves us, that He will bless every one of us with as many blessings as we are willing to receive. The joy my membership in the LDS Church has brought me is without measure, and it keeps getting better. It is thrilling to learn who we are, who we are to each other, and who we may become. I know we lived with our Heavenly Father before we were born, and that we came here for a divine purpose, to fulfill a mission that only we, with our individual talents and abilities, can fulfill, and that our future life is glorious. If we could only see in each other what the Lord sees in us, what a world of joy and peace this would be. I am a Mormon because I know God spoke to Joseph Smith. There are truths to be found in every tradition throughout history, but there is something special about the truths revealed through the LDS Church. These truths thrill me to the core of my being. I know they are of God. They do not contradict the fundamental truths found elsewhere in the world. Rather, they add gloriously and bountifully to them. My joy in this knowledge knows no bounds.

How I live my faith

I try to follow the Spirit every day to find people who need my help. I seem to always have opportunities to teach in my local LDS wards. I am also very enthusiastic about the Mormon dietary code, the Word of Wisdom, including the part about eating a healthy plant-based diet!
