Hi I'm Wai Yan (Ryan) Ng

I am a Hongkongese, a full-time missionary, an adventure lover, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in November 30, 1993, and raised in a so-called international city named Hong Kong. I spent all my life there until 17 years old, I was blessed to have the opportunity to study aboard in Snow College, locates in Ephraim, Utah. I stayed there for a year and a half participating in the ESL program and the Psychology major. I love playing basketball, swimming, kayaking, and video games, especially League of legends, Battlefield, Call of Duty, FIFA, NBA 2K series. And I love trying new things of any kinds. Currently I am serving as a full-time missionary in the Washington D.C. North mission, which covers the District of Columbia, and several surrounding counties of Maryland. Guess what? In English language!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member for my whole life as I was born and raised in the LDS faith. But both of my parents are converts to the church, they decided to join the church in the 1980s, when the church in Hong Kong wasn't really a majority and very strong. Their conversion stories have been a great influence for me to stay strong in the gospel. When I was a teenager, I was surrounded by a lot of friends with different faiths. Due to some misleading information, some of my friends labeled our faith as a "cult" or "false church". After a time of struggling, I finally came to realize, our Heavenly father is the ultimate source of all truth, like the Holy Bible said "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5) I sincerely knelt down and offer a prayer, and I know by the power of the Holy Ghost, the the Book of Mormon is true, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's true church once again has been established on the world. The atonement of Jesus Christ is real. I can feel the cleansing power from it every time I make mistakes, if I ask for forgiveness and apply the principles of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. This is why I am a Mormon, and even dedicated 2 years to serve a mission. From 6 members in 1830 to over 15 millions members all around the world, the speed of growth of the church is the evidence for me, that this is living church, the Lord Jesus Christ is guiding the work, and I am honored to participate in building his kingdom.

How I live my faith

It took a while to make the decision, but finally I decided to put aside my schooling and work for 2 years, to serve a full time mission. To serve a mission, you are assigned to a certain mission field and be given authority to "Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end." By sharing and living the gospel I find peace and joy. I have seen a lot of faithful members throughout my mission, and their examples have strengthen and nourish my testimony. Before my mission, I wasn't really engaged the gospel in a daily basis, but I like cooperating with the young men and young women in the church, like organized mutual activities with them, taught Sunday School for the youth, and even just played with them. Although I was older than them, I learned a lot from them. Their pure love to the gospel, has taught me to always rely on our heavenly father, like pray for everything, and read the scriptures to seek for guidance everyday. I came to know the true meaning of "...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." (Alma 37:6) I have been blessed a lot by living in the standard of the gospel, by obeying the Word of Wisdom, which is the health code for our physical benefits, by being instructed to avoid certain kinds of additive and harmful substances. Because of that I have a healthier body, and I have the strength and energy to overcome and endure challenges and hardships I face in a regular basis.
