Hi I'm Alan Hughes

I have been a Mormon for over 40 years, I am blind but thank my Heavenly Father each day for the wonderful blessings that I have

About Me

One of my school reports said of me ' If there was trouble in the school, we knew that Alan would never be there, but equally we knew who the instigator was'. I am a thinker a planner and a facilitator, I work best on my own, such was the case when I served in the Army. My wonderful wife and I have had a great life together, we have never had ab great amount on money to spend, but we have always had time for the important things in life. After the Army I worked in a checkered variety of jobs, always achieving promotion to positions of responsibility for the business and for other staff, eventually training to be a Teacher of Adults with learning, social or physical difficulties. About 13 years ago I lost most of my sight and over the past 4 years my hearing is starting to diminish as well, This has made it very difficult to gain employment, so I have decided to give my time to voluntary work in the local community (giving something back). I find this work very rewarding and I apply as much humour as I do hard work in all my assignments. I am still trying to improve my skills by attending courses to bring out various skills that have lain dormant within me, currently I am trying Gardening (much to the amusement of my family), I hope to be almost self sufficient of fresh vegetables within three years and fruit within four years. I also enjoy doing Family Geneology, and have found several dead relatives that could be referred to as 'interesting'

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in Jesus Christ, I am a CHRISTIAN, it is not always a badge that people are proud to wear, but I am, I have read The Book of Mormon and know it to be true. Am I perfect NO, Do I strive to be perfect YES. Do I have the support of all my Bothers and Sisters in the Gospel MOST CERTAINLY I DO

How I live my faith

I have been an active member of the Church for 43 years, I have had the opportunity of working with the Children in the Primary Organisation on and off for over 15 years, and I am now seeing the children of my students coming into Primary. I currently teach in one of the Priesthood groups in the Church which is proving to be a wonderfull experience for me and I hope for those I teach. I enjoy being known as a Mormon by my neighbours who are always asking me questions about what I believe in. I enjoy inviting them to the various Church activities that we have. I enjoy being able to talk about the Challenges that I have faced and how having a strong faith in Jesus Christ and in his atonement and how this has enabled me to put these challenges into perespective life is to short to worry about what you cann't do, you need to embrace all the things that you can do I am a Cancer survivor, when I had an operation to remove a Tumour, I was put back on a Hospital Ward that had MRSA on it and I caught the infection, but I had a Priesthood Blessing and all was well, as I habe previously said I have lost more than 95% of my sight and I am rapidly losing my hearing, I know without a shadow of a doubt that all this is for a purpose, I have nothing to complain about. I know without a shadow of a doubt that my Heavenly Father loves me are cares for my whole family with such great tender care, that all is well
