Hi I'm Kate

I'm the youngest of seven. I'm a harpist by vocation, a musician at heart. I'm a food enthusiast. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently received a Master of Music degree in harp performance from the University of Arizona! I have played the harp since I was seven years old, piano since six, and I know music will be an important love throughout my life, no matter what direction I go from here. Music really is the language of the soul. I grew up in a large family, the baby of seven, and my parents and siblings have been a tremendous influence for good and growth in my life. I'm somewhat of a runner, but ever since I was introduced to rowing by my aunt last summer, it's something that I'm really interested getting into. I'm known as a baker in my family, and my sister and I have a dream to open a joint bookstore/bakery together. I'm a big fan of traveling, and have been to Switzerland, China, and Brazil recently. I love to see other cultures and how people live outside of how I have always known life. I am currently living in England, and will be here for the next 18 months as I serve a mission for the church, in an effort to bring the light of Christ to others.

Why I am a Mormon

When I think of the ways Heavenly Father has blessed my life, I feel overwhelmed and incredibly grateful. I haven't always had a firm relationship with my Father in Heaven. My parents raised me to believe in Him, and to recognize Him in my everyday life, but I can't say I felt really close to Him and knew for myself that He exists until I moved away from home for college. Here, unlike home, I had to earnestly seek Him to feel Him near, whereas at home I always felt His spirit and influence when I walked through the door. I have felt Him guide me and provide direction in my daily prayer and communication with Him, and this is an absolute lifeline to me. I know the Lord looks down on us and sees the desires and intents of our hearts, and want so badly to help us achieve those things and reach our full potential. He is helping me do that. I know that Christ can dispel any darkness and pain that exists in our life. He is the light of the world. No matter what trial or hardship we are going through, He is always besides us, if we will just recognize Him. I have been able to realize this most profoundly in the death of my oldest sister, and the hole that event left in our family as well as our hearts. The Lord has been with our family through the pain that still extends 17 years later, and will continue to help us heal until we see her in the next life. I have a desire to share what I know to be truth, and am grateful to be able to have the opportunity to do that among the people of England for the next year and a half. I hope I can develop the courage to be able to share it with people within my influence throughout my life. Knowing God is something that brings so much happiness into my life, and I am determined to spread that knowledge since I have been so fortunate to always have that light in my life.

How I live my faith

I mostly have had the opportunity to use my musical talents within the church, and actually was encouraged to learn play the organ for the first time when I was made the church organist a couple summers ago. This was something that was scary because it was an instrument I wasn't familiar with, but it also inspired me to learn something new and branch out. I think a lot of times that is how the church works among members. As individuals, we are all asked to do things and participate even when it seems beyond our capabilities and even though we feel inadequate, but the Lord makes up for any inadequacies and weaknesses, and tries to show us our full potential. I have still yet to finesse my organ skills, but am hopeful for the future. Right now, I am serving as a full time missionary in the Leeds, England area. This has been one of the most significant experiences of my life so far, even though it's difficult to be away from home and family for a year and a half. I am so excited to find people that are desperate for more hope and happiness and try to help them and share the message of Christ with them.
