Hi I'm Philipa

I live in London, I love to run, I want to be a teacher and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 21 years old. I have started my degree doing a Fine Art course but have taken a break from studies and was working as a supply teacher in schools to save some money. I love to be involved with the youth in my job and within church, it's so much fun and every day is different! I'm a very creative person whether it's photographing, editing, painting or drawing, I love it. I enjoy travelling, and I am currently serving my Heavenly Father in the France Lyon Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I truly believe that the church brings out the best in myself and in others when I really live by the teachings of the Book of Mormon and by the words of our Prophet. I haven't always been a strong member of the church but during those times I was unhappy, things were not going right in my life. As soon as I started to pray more sincerely and read the scriptures, my situation didn't change, but my attitude did and I became more positive, which then led to changes in my situation. I have seen the blessings of the Gospel in my own life and the power that Christ's Atonement can have on me, and on others, but only if we really choose to use it.I have come to know for myself that this is where I am happiest, and it is the only way anyone can be completely happy. I believe that anyone can know for them self just by reading the Book of Mormon and praying to know if it is true, just like I have and many, many others have.

How I live my faith

I was involved in and organise activities every Tuesday to a group of girls aged 12-18. Some of the activities we did include playing games, cooking, developing their talents and pamper evenings! I also taught the girls at church 'Young Womens' lessons where we would learn more about ourselves, our Saviour and how to apply the principles of the church in our daily lives. I am now going to be spending the next 18 months devoted to serving the Lord by teaching people wherever we find them about the wonderful message of Jesus Christ and His amazing plan for us and why we are here! I will also be in service of all kinds in the communities I live in.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Philipa
Our body is a gift from God and that is why we take care of it by our dress, behavior and what we put into it. This includes tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs. These substances are not good for us but I think more importantly, it gives us power over ourselves. By abstaining from partaking of these things we have more control over our bodies and what we do. Addictions hold us in subjection where we can no longer choose for ourselves. Everything the church teaches us is to give us more control, contrary to what people may think. God promises great physical and spiritual blessings to those who follow his word. (See Doctrine and Covenants 89:1-21) Show more Show less
