Hi I'm Paul Smith

I'm a CEO of a Financial Services Company, brought up in Leicester UK. I have been a Mormon since I was a young boy.

About Me

I love listening to rock music, playing racquet sports, watching sporting events & movies and socialising with people. My wife and I are parents of 4 sons, then 3 daughters. I've passed my financial services exams to diploma status which I found very difficult because of my dyslexia. I like travelling, not to the tourist places but to places not really explored.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up being an active participant in Mormon culture, living the life taught to me by my parents, loyally. I understood that good things happen to those who try to live as I was taught. I felt guilty when I didn't comply. In my youth I questioned my Mormon lifestyle, comparing it to my peers, I needed to determine if I was being indoctrinated somehow. I determined that I must establish for myself if I was following a path of guilt ridden loyalty or not. As I decided for myself that my lifestyle was not a restriction of freedom, but an opportunity to feel peace and joy, my attitude changed from feeling restricted to one of liberation. As I sort for answers to life's questions I determined for myself that the teachings of my parents were actually true and not misguided. The more I lived the principles taught to me out of desire, the more I realised that God gives us guidance as an opportunity to receive blessings, many in the form of peace and joy. The more opportunities I find to help mankind, the greater I feel my Saviours love for me. The more I learn about Gods plan for me the more reassured I feel that there is a purpose to my life here on earth and that I am not here by mere chance. Gods plan suggests that I can be free from guilt and sorrow because he loves me, made an ultimate sacrifice for me and provides a way for me to be forgiven. This then motivates me to be a better person, strive to live a good life and aim to live with Him and my family forever in heaven.

How I live my faith

I've had the opportunity to be a full time minister in Florida, Georgia and Alabama as a 19 year old boy for 2 years. I am currently involved with organising activities and events that encourage families to spend time together and form strong family bonds. For the previous 3 years I had the chance to teach theology to up to 25 teenagers between 14-18 years old at 6-7 am in the morning. This was tiring but rewarding to see youth having a desire to make the sacrifice that would help them to be positive influences in the community and Christians.
