Hi I'm Holly

I am a wife, mother, and PhD student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a new mother! I grew up in a small town, moved away for college, went on a 1.5 year mission in another country then returned to Ohio to begin working for local nonprofit organizations. During this time I decided I wanted to open doors for girls in developing countries who did not have access to education, but I wasn't sure how to do it, so I decided to get more knowledge. I started my PhD in person but switched to doing it online when I married an incredible, faithful, intelligent, hard-working man and moved across the country. Last fall a baby boy joined our family, so I am now learning how to balance life again and redefine what a "productive" day looks like. The things that bring me the greatest joy are spending time with my family, hearing my baby boy laugh, learning new things, and helping people. I love to read, draw, exercise, serve, do family history, and be outdoors, and I fit them in with my family as much as I can between my studies, and of course, baby nap times.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 16 at great personal sacrifice, and she always made sure we had the opportunity to go to church. As a teenager, I began to doubt this faith I was in, so I took the challenge to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. After daily reading of the scriptures, much prayer, many tears, and bringing my life into line with the things I knew I should be doing, the Lord touched my heart and my mind to let me know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and I have been diligently serving Him here ever since. The teachings of this church have helped me come closer to my Savior Jesus Christ. I have a personal relationship with Him because of the things I have learned; He has brought me so much knowledge, love, peace, and hope, and I am growing more each day. I am so grateful for His love, and especially for the knowledge that if I continue to be faithful to what He asks me to do, I can live with my Heavenly Father, Savior Jesus Christ, and my family forever. This life is not the end- it's just part of the plan.

How I live my faith

I feel like the greatest demonstration of my faith right now is the opportunity to help my son learn and grow everyday. Whenever we go out in public- to the store, library, my husband's workplace- he brings so much joy to people. He loves to smile at people, and it is so contagious that perfect strangers stop me everywhere to tell me that he made their day with his quick smile and cheerful countenance. His openness makes me smile daily and has given me the opportunity to talk to so many new people of many different backgrounds. In addition to this, I get to visit an elderly woman each month in her home to bring her a spiritual message, and my husband and I often bake things for people in our area or invite people to dinner in our home. I also enjoy daily personal scripture study and prayers, as well as helping at my church whenever needed.
