Hi I'm Travis

I was raised in Utah. I served a 2 year mission in Japan, and love learning about new cultures. Life is an adventure!

About Me

I am a college student studying Japanese. I spent two years living in Japan as a missionary, and have grown to love the Japanese culture. I have an interest in studying different cultures and ways of life. While living in Japan, I discovered a new part of myself I did not know before, and I believe that the more cultures you come to understand, the more you can know about yourself. I am a media lover. I feel when media is used in appropriate ways, it can inspire, and help us become better people. I believe in the positive use of new technology. While some technologies can distract us, I find that when technology is used in the correct ways, one can help those around him/her more, and be an influence for good in their lives. I am a gamer. I see positive video games (if used effectively and properly) as both a way to connect with others and have fun, and as an art form. Just as stories told from movies, paintings, storybooks, and music, stories told through the medium of video games can also be very touching, and inspire you to be a better person. Video games that I love always have a combination of beautiful art styles, touching music, wonderful characters, and uplifting and inspiring stories. I hope one day to be able to help translate/localize a lot of Japanese games that have inspired me, so that wider audiences can enjoy them. It would also be my dream to create new technology for video games to bring people together in good ways (as the Nintendo Wii has tried to do).

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found that living the teachings of the church brings me closer to God. There have been times when I have doubted God's existence but even when I am going through hard times, He is always there. I have found that I can not often see it at the time, but after the hard times are over, I can see clearly that He was with me, and understand why I had to experience them. More often than not, it is to teach me a valuable lesson. I am a Mormon because I have found following God's commandments helps me protect the ones I love and care about. I care deeply about my friends and family, and would do and sacrifice anything to keep them safe if I had to. The church teaches that families can be together forever, and that we all have our own responsibilities as members of a family. I currently am single and live in a college dorm, but I am striving to become the father that I would want my future kids to have. A father that can take care of his wife's and children's physical, mental, and spiritual needs. I am also a Mormon because I have read the Book of Mormon for myself, and have found it to be true, as is promised in it's pages. It changed and continues to change the way I live. I know it is a book that God has prepared for us to read and be inspired by. I have never felt myself closer to God than when I am reading the Book of Mormon with a question about my life, and praying about it. I believe both the Bible and the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to find the good in every situation I am in. I enjoy helping others, and serving as a part-time missionary in my local church area. As a missionary I have opportunities to teach both members of the church and those who are not, about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and why it makes me happy. I have had the opportunity to serve in various roles as a church member, but every one of them brings me closer to God and gives me a chance to help other people.
