Hi I'm Matt

"I grew up in Utah. I enjoy bodybuilding, good looking trucks, skim boarding and learning Chinese. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Missionary in Taiwan! I love anything challenging and have always look for ways to learn and grow. I like the challenge of bodybuilding. A lot! I love the amazing feeling of hard work and just all around health in general. During my free time I will probably be skim boarding or snowboarding, depends on the season. And Trucks :) especially good-looking, heavy duty trucks (mine is pretty small, but it will get the job done). The skills I learned during leadership training, the Eagle Scout program, and certain bodybuilding programs helped me learn many important lessons about how to stay disciplined and goal oriented. I love anything challenging so I can grow physically, mentally and most important spiritually. I think that anything that is difficult to do is worth the reward!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to a family that are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was able to grow up learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ since I was an infant. During my early teenage years, I found it difficult to have a desire to follow the guidelines of the LDS church. With loving guidance from parents and leaders, I chose to start aligning my thoughts and actions with the church's values. As I did so, I grew to understand that our Heavenly Father has given us guidelines to live our lives so that we may have true happiness. I began to comprehend the love God had for me and that his only goal was for me to return to live with him. This gave me peace in my life that I know will last for eternity. As I have prayerfully searched the Book of Mormon and Bible, I have come to know Jesus Christ. His teachings have helped me make important decisions in my life. I have grown to better comprehend his infinite love he has for his children. He made it possible, through the atonement, for us to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know our Heavenly Father has a plan for each of his children, and that he has made it possible for all to return to him if they so choose. The Holy Ghost has born special witness to me of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, The New and Old Testament, and the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness through the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I have committed to serve a 2 year full-time mission to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others in the world. I am serving in th Taiwan Taipei mission. I LOVE sharing the joy and blessings I have received with those I serve with.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No, while it is encouraged you are able to exercise agency. Because of the blessings I have received, I feel that serving the Lord is a high privilege and that a mission is a great opportunity to share the glad message of the restored gospel to the world. Show more Show less

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Bodies are called temples because they, like temples, are special places that the spirit can dwell. Our spirit dwells within our bodies. God's spirit dwells inside his holy temples. Our Heavenly Father gave us these temples called bodies so that we can learn and grow to become more like Him. If you look at the temples today, they are made using the finest materials available and kept very sacred and separate from anything unclean and unholy so that the spirit of God can dwell there. We are commanded that we keep our bodies clean and healthy to show similar respect for the houses of our own spirits. I know that when we do so, we will please our Heavenly Father. How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

My faith in Jesus Christ came because I believe that He is the Son of God and can redeem me from my sins. This leads me to believe his teachings and have a desire to follow his commandments. As I prayerfully study the scriptures and keep his commandments, I see that blessings that come into my life, and then my faith continually increases! I know that as I repent of my mistakes I am forgiven, and this leads me to have even greater faith in Jesus Christ. I Invite you to follow his commandments and ask for forgiveness of sins to gain a testimony of Jesus Christ as your Savior. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Simply, some people are misinformed. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints may seem a little different because of its special origination, but it is a normal old church. Stop by sometime this Sunday and check it out! I promise you that this is a different Church for a reason. I know that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and called him to be the prophet that restored the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ once again to the earth. The Holy Ghost has born witness to me that these things are true and that this is the true church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes. I have felt my faith in Christ be strengthened as I read and apply the teachings of the Old Testament and New Testament into my life. Reading the Bible along with The Book of Mormon has been a powerful resource for me to understand the role of my Heavenly Father in my life, as well as my Savior Jesus Christ. I know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Bible and The Book of Mormon are sacred records of scripture. I know that our Father in Heaven intends for us to use them so that we can receive His guidance back to Him. I know that by reading the Bible and The Book of Mormon, you will receive divine guidance to help you personally. Show more Show less
