Hi I'm Sara

I grew up in Mil-town. I study evolution, genetic engineering, and German. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to be actively learning, doing, and accomplishing things. I studied music as a teenager and still enjoy playing around on my oboe, piano, or guitar with my friends. Cultures and languages excite me. I have been learning German since I was 12 and had the chance to go to Germany for the first time on an internship to a chemical ecology lab a year ago. I took a semester of Norwegian and Portuguese, am currently exploring Japanese food and culture, and am excited to go to Brazil to do missionary work for for eighteen months. Science also fascinates me. I am doing a double major in genetic engineering and German studies at Brigham Young University. I work in the plant genetics lab on campus, where I personally study evolutionary breeding patterns of a native fungus we hope to use to combat an invasive species of grass. I love molecular biology and hope to eventually work in pharmaceutical development using compounds produced by plants. When I'm not enjoying the books, I like spending time outside. I particularly like fishing, hiking, boating, and gardening. I also enjoy simply a good game or movie night with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. There are guidelines set out for me to follow, and I am told that if I follow these guidelines, I will be happy, and this has proven to be the case. There is so much I don't know and can't do. This coupled with all the junk life throws at me makes life exhaustingly hard. However, when I do my best to follow the teachings in the Mormon church, life becomes more bearable. I really like to be happy, and the Mormon church has taught me how to do this with the simple life I lead. I know that I am a daughter of God and he loves me a lot. This is incredible to me because I see all that my dad does for me who loves me a lot. God is God, and because of that, he can do and does so much more to take care of me and make sure I am happy. I also love the Book of Mormon. I feel so good when I read it, and I often learn things that help me make me a better person. It is such a strong book. So yeah! I'm Mormon because I like to be truly happy!

How I live my faith

I practice my faith through service. At church at home in Wisconsin, I often help out in the classes for young children. Out at school in Utah, I have served teaching classes to young adults, preparing rooms for meetings, and making sure other women's needs are taken care of. When I was in Germany for three months, I helped with the congregational choir, as well as taught with the Mormon missionaries out there.
