Hi I'm James

I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I am married and have a daughter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have just finished studying environmental management at university and . I love walking, hiking and camping. I read a lot and love science fiction, especially the classic stuff like H G Wells and Jules Verne. I am married to a beautiful woman and have a ten month old daughter who loves to shout at the top of her lungs.

Why I am a Mormon

I first read the book of Mormon when I was sixteen Despite having been brought up in the church and attending church regularly, I had not yet read it from cover to cover. I started by reading a chapter a day. It took me eight months, but by the time I finished it I knew it was no ordinary book. I thought about the things I had learned and prayed to know if it was true. I received an answer which was personal to me and confirmed everything. I have since had several experiences which have strengthened my testimony; feelings of confirmation and happiness. I know that the gospel has been restored in its fullness and that restored truths confirm that families can be together forever. I also know that heavenly father knows and loves me personally. This is why I choose to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am a Councillor in our branch. This means helping our branch president to plan meetings, assisting with administration and looking out for the needs of our members. I am also a home teacher; with my assigned companion we visit members homes to share a spiritual message and assist if needed. I had the opportunity to serve a two year mission. I was assigned to the West Indies mission and spent my time teaching the gospel and testifying that the church of Jesus Christ is restored.

What is the priesthood?

James
The priesthood is the authority of God, delegated to man to act in his name. It is the means by which Jesus Christ established and structured his church when he was on the earth. While this authority was lost with the deaths of his apostles, it is on earth once again in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are led by a prophet who has this authority. All males in the church have the opportunity to receive the priesthood, and through it a man has the authority to perform ordinances like baptism and blessing the sick. Those who have the priesthood are able to act in Gods name to provide service and bless the lives of others. Show more Show less
