Hi I'm Melissa

I'm working on writing a book. I tutor math on the side. I love painting. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to write, paint, draw, and play the piano. The mountains are my home and I love going on hikes to feel the wind and see the world that my Lord has given to me. I grew up skiing those slopes and was taught how to carve and parallel because of my father. I love memorizing movies and I love playing movie quote games. I want to help create movies some day. I´ve been in a few musicals, Pirates of Penzance and Cats, namely. My favorite play is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard. My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson (Way of Kings is AMAZING!).

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the gospel, but that is not why I´m currently an active Mormon today. It was a base, but I chose to grow stronger in my faith on my own. God is my father, my Heavenly Father, and he loves me. As I come to recognize this fact, it makes more and more sense that I need to draw nearer to him to take advantage of the blessings he desires to give me and to progress in this life on Earth. Daily I am taught new things that I need to know, reminded of how to be a better person, and gently guided to paths that will help me learn the most. Heavenly Father does this for me because he wants me to be happy and he knows that this is the best way for me to go. I trust him, and I know he is proud of me and my efforts.

How I live my faith

As I know God's plan for me, it gives me a greater perspective on life. I lived with God before I came to Earth, and I want to live with Him again after I die. So I live my life as He would have me live. I read the scriptures and seek for ways to serve the people around me. I look to Him for guidance through prayer and chruch attendance. When life gets hard (beause I know it will), I try to remember that these difficult moments are not forever. As I learn from them and follow Christ's example of patience and love I find greater strength to live through them with peace and joy.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Truth. Our Father in Heaven knows who is looking for it and he guides them to find it. This church is established on true principles that will never fall. We share this truth with all who have ears to hear. All who listen and ask God in prayer will know that these things are true. Daily people are coming to a knowledge of this fact. And this church will continue to grow because it is God's church. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

The Bible was written by men chosen and directed by God. The words within it can help us find answers to the difficult questions in our lives and helps us learn from the examples that have gone before us. Most importantly, the Bible teaches and testifies of Christ. Learning about Him and following His ways is one of the greatest things we can do in this life. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is power, or authority from God to use his power. Jesus Christ healed many, instituted the sacrament, and organized his disciples, he did it by the power of the priesthood. He gave that power to his twelve apostles, and now we have that same authority on the earth today. He gives it to worthy men to bless the lives of others. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

It's said that we speak to God through prayer, he speaks to us through the scriptures. As we pray we can ask for help, peace, or understanding. When we turn to the scriptures, we can receive the help we are looking for, we can find peace, we can gain a greater understanding of our life. I promise you that you will find yourself drawing nearer to God as you read the scriptures. They were written by inspired men to write down the things that we need to know here and now. When we read them, we are gaining precious truths that will help us in our lives. They are priceless sources of strength, knowledge, and power. Show more Show less
