Hi I'm James

I grew up all over the United States. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a typical LDS teenage guy - I like to hang out with my friends and go to the gym. I also enjoy swimming and playing tennis. I play several different musical instruments, including the euphonium, piano, and guitar. Through foreign language classes in high school I've learned French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. I'm an Eagle Scout. I love the outdoors, and I like to go camping every now and then. I love to serve others. I've put off college for a little while in order to serve a mission to the people in Australia, but I plan on continuing my education once I get back.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and I grew up as a normal kid who loved to have fun. Even as a small child, however, I knew that the Lord had a purpose for me in life. One of the many experiences I have had that have taught me this occurred when I was eleven years old, as I came down with a serious illness called encephalitis, which is an acute inflammation of the brain. I was hospitalized for two weeks, and my symptoms included headaches, fevers, confusion, drowsiness, fatigue, seizures, and hallucinations. It was possible that the illness would kill me. Every night when I slept my mother was at my side by my hospital bed. One particular night, my heart rate started to grow weaker, even skipping beats occasionally. I was asleep at the time, but the doctor told my mother that if my heart skipped another beat I would pass away. My God kept me alive. To the joy of my family, I was able to return home after about another week. During this illness I remember always knowing that if I died, I would need to have been nice to my family in order to be pronounced righteous and worthy. I loved my family more than ever during this time. I knew perfectly that there was life after death, and I knew only the righteous would get to enter into the celestial kingdom. There was no doubt in my mind that I had a Heavenly Father who loved me, and that He had a plan and a purpose for me that He wanted me to fulfill. I may not fully know what my whole purpose in life is yet, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have one. I testify that the LDS church is the one and only true church containing the fulness of the gospel. I testify that Joseph Smith was a true and living prophet of God, and that today Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God. I bear testimony that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, by believing on His name, being baptized, and enduring to the end, all can receive a remission of their sins and know eternal life. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

In my community, I am registered as a swimming merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. I attend church meetings regularly, and I've also been called to serve a two year mission for the LDS church in the Australia Sydney Mission, where I will be preaching the gospel in the English language.
