Hi I'm Samantha McKenzie

I'm a Californian. I love to dance. I seek sunshine and smiles everyday. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student, a friend and most importantly a disciple of Christ. I was born and raised in Northern California with my parents and older sister. My family has been such a strength to me throughout my life. I have been blessed with parents who have encouraged me to be my best and supported me in all of my endeavors. I am grateful for the positive environment that my parents raised me in--they taught me to find joy in the simple things in life, like biking and hiking along the trails that surround my home. I am involved in many organizations that benefit the community and I love to learn new things. I am passionate about my education and believe that it is the foundation for creating future successes for my family and myself.

Why I am a Mormon

The biggest part of who I am, and what I believe defines my character, is my testimony of the gospel. I was not raised religious, but my parents are amazing people and were always encouraging me to learn new things and strive to be my best. When I was five years old, sister missionaries began to teach our family. Even as a small child I remember feeling something very special when the missionaries were over. At the time, my sister was eight and wanted to get baptized. However, my parents did not agree with all of the church standards and wanted their daughters to choose their own religion. A few years later, my great-grandfather, Papa, passed away. I was very close with him, but his passing didn’t sadden me. Somehow I knew he was in a better place. Not long after his passing, I began to talk with him. It was nothing scary, I would just say little prayers to my Papa. I started to think that my life was missing something. Even at such a tender age, my spirit recognized the gap that was there without the gospel. When I was eleven, I began going to church with my friend Megan. When Megan asked if I would be baptized a few weeks later, I did not hesitate; this was the answer to my prayers to Papa. The missionaries began to come over and teach our whole family. It took time, but each member finally found their own personal testimony and we were all baptized. The next year we were sealed for eternity in the temple. Soon, I will have the chance to share the gospel like those missionaries who taught our family and I could not be more excited and happy to do so. I love my Heavenly Father more and more each day. His hand has directed my path more ways than I could ever count and my heart is full of gratitude and love for Him and His Son. Being a member of the Church has truly shaped my character, and I give all the credit for my accomplishments to my Father in Heaven. My life thus far has been a great adventure and I look forward to a bright future.

How I live my faith

I was recently called as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have been assigned to labor in the Brazil Salvador mission and I couldn't be more thrilled. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to serve the people of Brazil and I can already feel an immense love for those people. I'm so excited to learn the Portuguese language and teach people of Christ. The missionaries had such a huge impact in my life and I cannot wait to share the message of restored gospel to those who have never heard it. I report to the Brazil MTC September 18th, so I'm using this time to prepare to teach and serve God's children. I have been able to provide service in my ward as a Sunday school teacher and have I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to teach and serve those in my class as we learn more about the gospel. I am grateful for the experiences I've had that have allowed me to have this opportunity. I feel so blessed to be part of this great work and look forward to the chance I will have to share His gospel in the beautiful country of Brazil.
