Hi I'm Jason

I was born in Australia, studied at university to be an engineer and became a Mormon in my 20s

About Me

I'm a husband to a wonderful wife, and father to 3 boys. Engineering has been my passion since leaving high school, and I especially enjoy the practical aspects such as computer programming, brainstorming and problem solving. My favorite books and movies are typically science fiction with some good humour thrown in. In recent years I've become an avid snow skier and recently became an instructor, which is a great way to share my passion for skiing. I've been a coach on several of my sons' sporting teams, and currently two of my sons and I are soccer referees during the Spring and Fall seasons. Although I don't play any sort of musical instrument, I really enjoy listening to all kinds of popular music, and music from the 1980s is probably my favorite. When I was a teenager, I was a boy scout, and now as a father I have had the opportunity to share the cub scout and boy scout programs with my sons. Our family really enjoys camping together, sittting round a camp fire and enjoying a tasty Dutch oven cooked meal. Life is wonderful !

Why I am a Mormon

My sister had joined the Church several years before I did. At that time, I had been particulary hard on her for her decision. Eventually she moved in with my brother and I while we were all attending university. I met several of her church friends and I even attended some of the church activities with them. After one Sunday evening musical event, she asked me if we could take two sister missionaries back to their apartment, which was not far from our home. As they got out of my car, they challenged me to read the Book of Mormon, and to pray about it. My hard heart had been softened, and I was ready to listen to their message and to be taught by them. My baptismal day was a wonderful and special day. My life, which up to that point in time had been rather aimless and without direction, now had a sense of perspective and direction. I now knew of the plan that my father in heaven had for me, and I knew that Jesus loved me. There was a marvelous purpose to my life that was not there before. As I continue to study the scriptures, to attend church, and to follow the counsel of living prophets and apostles, I have truly been blessed. My testimony of the Gospel has grown, and my appreciation for Jesus Christ as my saviour and redeemer has increased. It is wonderful to be a member of the church that bears His name.

How I live my faith

I was not born in the Mormon church, but was baptized into it when I was 23 years old. Part of making such a change in my life as this was to decide to be as active in everything the Church offered to me. Since that time, I have worked with the missionaries several times and helped other people come to know the Saviour and make the decision to join the Church. I have served in several different leadership roles in my local congregation, working with the adults, youth and children. I have especially enjoyed time spent working with the scouting programs that the Church has. Every new opportunity to serve brings with it many wonderful blessings, not only in the lives of those that I serve, but in my own life as well.
