Hi I'm Kortney

I love trying new things, especially in cooking and exercise (sports). I'm studying to become a teacher. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am studying (at college currently) to become an elementary school teacher. I love kids, as I've learned by helping my mom with my siblings and coaching a t-ball team. I was Sterling Scholar for General Studies for my school. I was heavily involved with the drama department in our school. I acted in several plays and took several competition pieces to State. I also was a techie on occasion. I played softball and tennis for a few seasons in high school. Since coming to college I have learned to rock climb, which I have loved so far! I've also gone swimming a lot. I'm not very good, but it is great exercise! Wallee-ball is another fun activity I've done with my friends. Rollerskating is something I've never ever done before in my life that I've tried while here at college. I love to take pictures, and I've tried to develop that talent while here at college. I've learned that it's okay to wear a ball cap on bad hair days, that boys are really frustrating, and that the sun will rise each morning, even when you stay up late.

Why I am a Mormon

I don't know where I would be without this church. My dad died when I was just entering high school. I went to daily religious classes called Seminary. I learned there that because my parents were married in the temple of the Lord they will be sealed to each other for all eternity, meaning life after death in addition to our time on this earth. I know that if I live in accordance to the teaching of this Gospel I can be with my dad again someday. I also will be able to marry in the temple and be worthy of all those blessing that come with it. I want to be with my spouse and kids for ever. I know that this is a real and possible dream. I know that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are journals of prophets who really lived and walked on this Earth. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us. He hears our prayers and is aware of everything going on in our lives.

How I live my faith

I live this gospel by example. I want people to see the light of Christ in me. I try to serve others and have a cheerful attitude towards life. I am human and I make mistakes. But I hope overall that people understand, and that they see me as who I am trying to become. I work as hard as I can toward my goals and pray to my Heavenly Father for help and guidance. I go to church every week with a prayer in my heart. I listen to the music and the experiences of my peers. Sometimes I play the piano or conduct the music. That is where I feel the Holy Spirit enter my mind and heart the most. Music can be a powerful force, and we must choose to use that to enlighten our lives or to drag us down.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

"The Mormons" is like a nickname for our church, because we believe in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a set of scriptures and journals from prophets that were living in the "New World" at the time of Christ's ministry on Earth. Show more Show less
