Hi I'm Amber

I grew up in Alabama. I'm a daughter, sister, and friend. I'm an optimist and I love smiling. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently serving as a missionary of the Mormon Church in the Thailand Bangkok mission. I love everything about serving people, and I know that even if a mission wasn't right for me, I would be finding another source of helping people whether it be great or small. I love seeing how a simple helping hand or a smile can improve someone's day, and I fimly believe that if everyone did these things and turned ourward in service to their fellow man, the world would be a better place. Prior to serving a mission, I was a student studying Recreation Management and Youth Leadership with an emphasis in Community and Youth Development. Through my classes I have come to realize that I love the family unit and that there is nothing that can ever substitute it. There is something magical and remarkable that happens when families take time out of their days to spend time with each other. Aside from spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy writing and cooking. Surprisingly, these are both things that have become of great value to me because of my family. All families are unique and special in their own way. My parents are divorced and both remarried, and even though there are things I struggled with through my family and other life transitions, I would not trade even my hardest experiences for anything in the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this is a gospel of hope, love, and peace. There are things in this world that could tear me down, but because I know that God loves me more than anything in this world I can overcome even my most difficult trials. I have been through times where I was too stubborn to ask for help, but I know now that there is nothing I can do without the help of Christ; additionally, there is nothing He asks me to do that I cannot accomplish, especially with Him by my side. He is my light when all the world around me is full of darkness. I have wanted to give up when it was hard to see the good. I hated where I was and where I was headed. I felt like I had no control over my life and that there was no good in my situation. I hid my true feelings and tried to be the person others expected me to be. I felt like no one really cared about how I felt and if I told anyone I thought they would think differently of me and my family. Now that I have truly come to know that I cannot hide these things from God and that Christ has felt every pain and sorrow and has paid for every sin I have committed or will commit, I am allowed to have hope in every aspect of my life. I have seen the effects of Christ's love and forgiveness in my past, and I oftentimes can't believe that He still accepts me despite my imperfections. He wants us to become better so that we can live with Him again and He will help us whenever we pray for guidance. Christ gives me hope to keep trying each day.

How I live my faith

Faith is the most vital key to any religion. I live my faith by trying my hardest every day and countinuing on each day. I try my hardest to be an example to all I come in contact with, and I seek out daily opportunities to serve others. I have found that there is nothing in this world that can make me happier than to serve those around me. I have come to realize how easy it is to hide one's feelings, as I have been in that situation many times before. I strive to be like Jesus Christ in everything I do, say, and think. Even if I mess up one day, I know that He is always there for me to pick me up, brush me off, and gently guide me in the right direction to prepare me for the trials of tomorrow. Another way I live my faith is by serving a mission. I decided to serve because I love the wonderful news this Gospel brings and I can't imagine my life without it. I can't imagine any one person on this earth who has not at least heard this wonderful and life-giving message that allows me to have a hope for a brighter future. My faith enables me to have a greater capacity for love and happiness and I can't wait to share it with the people of Thailand. In my life, I try to look for things on a daily basis that make me happy and keep me going, and the Gospel message is my greatest source of joy. Serving a mission was a leap of faith as I left behind all worldly affairs, but I know that we do not grow unless we seek opportunities that stretch us and our faith.
