Hi I'm Jacob

I was born and raised in Texas in the United States. I am currently serving an LDS mission in the New York Rochester Mission.

About Me

I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New York Rochester Mission. As a person, I enjoy math, science, helping people, and good food. I have a loving family and dog back home.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was thirteen, I was advised to read the Book of Mormon as part of a challenge given by my bishop. Prior to that point, I had been a member simply because my parents had been members. Following this challenge, though, I knelt in earnest prayer and asked to know if the Book of Mormon was true. The confirmation came to me as a strong burning feeling in my chest. Later, at the age of fifteen, my father lost his job. He was unemployed for over a year and a half, but through earnest prayer, obedience to the commandments, and careful study, we were blessed, kept our home, and had all that we needed to live. I know that it was through faith in God and our willingness to obey that we were blessed. I know the Lord answers prayers, and I know he blesses those that obey his teachings. I am a Mormon because I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be true and the Book of Mormon to be true.

How I live my faith

I am currently spending the next two years of my life preaching the gospel as an LDS missionary in the New York Rochester Mission. I always strive to be courteous to others and try to be the best example I can. I love the gospel and try to live its teachings as best as I can while helping others to enjoy the same benefits that I have.

What is faith?

Faith is similar to the belief that the sun will rise. You don't have to see it happen to know it will happen because all other signs point toward it. One has faith in God when he not only believes in God, but has faith that God will help him and aid him in his daily life. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a collection of records from the Lord's people in the ancient Americas. These people are descendants of a small group of people who lived in Jerusalem around 600 BC, during the reign of King Zedekiah. After receiving revelation to leave, the prophet Lehi, his family, and a few others departed into the wilderness and eventually sailed across the ocean and landed on the American continent. The Book of Mormon, in other words, very much like the Old Testament and the New Testament, was authored by many different prophets of God. It contains prophecies about Christ's coming, it contains his teachings and his visit to the Americas, and it contains prophecies about our time. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

For me, everything testifies of God. There are so many miracles concerning the existence of our universe, ourselves, and everything we see that there must be a master creator behind it all. The peace I feel in my heart when I pray and the inexplicable blessings I see in my life testify to me of a loving Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

We absolutely are Christians. Our Church operates on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and we know him to be our leader, Savior, and Redeemer. The Book of Mormon works with the Bible to testify of him, and we know that it is only through him and his Atonement that we can have salvation. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

In 1833, God provided a health code, known as the Word of Wisdom, which prohibits tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illegal drugs, to us. It also encourages us to keep our minds and bodies strong through proper eating. We are promised many blessings, including increased mental ability and knowledge, improved physical health, and spiritual strength. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

What a wonderful question! The Book of Mormon contains a promise, saying that if you read and pray to Heavenly Father with real intent if the Book of Mormon is true, you will receive an answer through the Holy Ghost. It also states in the introduction that if the Book of Mormon is true, Jesus Christ is our Savior, Joseph Smith really was a prophet, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really is true and really is led by Jesus Christ. In other words, read, pray, and listen to the Spirit! Although the answer is sometimes subtle and may take time to receive, it is also quite often very clear and obvious. For me, it was a very firm, very strong burning feeling, and a sudden "knowing" that it simply had to be true, and millions of other people have testified of similar experiences. Show more Show less
