Hi I'm Jill

I am a wife. I am a Primary school teacher. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a primary school teacher. I worked for 13 years as a reception class teacher in a wonderful school. I now work part-time at that school so that I can spend more time with my family and serve more in the church. My husband and I come from large families and we love spending time with them, especially our young nieces and nephews. I love flowers and plants and could spend hours in garden centres (although I only have a small back yard). My husband and I are members of the National Trust and love 'soaking up' the great British countryside and visiting places of historic interest. We also 'dabble' with camping with our extended family. We like to go to the theatre, cinema, eating out and spending time with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have learnt for myself that this is Jesus Christ's only true church. I have been blessed to have been taught the gospel of Jesus Christ from birth. I was taught from an early age how to find truth for myself, how to recognise the promptings of the Holy Spirit and how to pray to a loving Heavenly Father. As a child I read the Book of Mormon and gained a testimony for myself that this was indeed another witness of Jesus Christ that went hand in hand with the Bible. I knew then that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that God has a living prophet on the earth today. I am a Mormon because I understand that Jesus Christ's suffering in Gethsemane and on the cross was for me personally, as well as for every other person who has ever lived or will live. Because of His great love for us He willingly suffered so that we will all live after this life. The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches me how His sacrifice and His love enables me to repent and change and grow. I know that through His grace a way has been provided for families to be together forever. These truths are precious to me in my life. Because I am a Mormon I have a life blessed with peace and joy that comes from the confidence and trust I have in Jesus Christ, my Saviour and Redeemer.

How I live my faith

This is not a Sunday only religion. When I was baptized I entered into covenants with God. To me living my faith is an amazing blessing. Everyone who wants to, can have roles and responsibilities in the church. Every contribution is as important as another. I have had the chance to hold many different positions and have different roles in the church since I was 12. Age, gender of ability doesn't come into it. Willingness to be involved and serve the Lord is what matters. I am currently a visiting teacher. All women 18 years or older can do this. We visit each woman who is on the church records and try to help them either spiritually or temporally. This helps me to learn how to minister as Christ ministered, as he cared for the individual. I also serve in the organisation for women in the church called the Relief Society. I am also currently the Seminary Teacher. I teach a small class of 14-18 year olds every morning before school during term time. This year we are studying the New Testament. I love the way the things we read and learn apply to our lives now in 2013. I know my class have been able to apply the things they are taught by the Holy Spirit to the challenges they face as teenagers in modern society. The organisation of the church is there to assist in our daily discipleship. I have learnt from experience, that if I try to live each day so that Jesus Christ is central to my life the Lord can make much more of my life than I can. I love the opportunity I have, despite my own limitations, to serve His children.
