Hi I'm Thomas Cochran

I grew up in El Paso, Texas. Now, I live in Logan, Utah. I'm a student in college but I also teach classes.

About Me

I was born a member of the church. I grew up with a mother who truly loves our Savior and has a very strong belief in God. I have five brothers and sisters. Living in a big family didn't make it easy to do the things that Christ teaches through his prophets (family prayer and scripture study), but I see the infinite blessings of it now. I love teaching. I currently teach Spanish and a study skills class at my university as an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow. I love Harry Potter and Star Wars so I have something in common with pretty much everyone I meet. I have had a lot of experiences in my life that have led me to be able to say that I know God loves me and has led me to His church today.

Why I am a Mormon

Where does your happiness come from? Mine comes from a place that no one can take from me. I base my happiness in knowing that Heavenly Father loves me, and will help and protect me spiritually. Basing my happiness on my car, or video games, or other material things just isn't the same. Cars break and video games become outdated. The love of Heavenly Father is forever and once I decided that that was what made me happy, life became very easy. I am a Mormon because being a Mormon has given me a better life for myself than I could without it. No one has all the answers in the world but being a Mormon, I know where to find all the ones I need. I've had a difficult life with a lot of family problems. I've been in some very dark places in my life and after experiencing how Jesus Christ lifted me from those dark places and gave me light, I couldn't imagine ever letting go of Him. I love Him, I try to have a personal relationship with Him through prayer and living right. The closer I feel to Him, the better my life is, no matter what bad things are happening around me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a way that enriches my life, and I try to use that enrichment to bring out the best in people. I may not be able to do a lot of what Christ did in his life, but I try to treat people the way he did. Helping others is central in Christianity of any sort. I don't pretend to be perfect but I try to help people by encouraging them and building them up, and in turn they build me up and strengthen my faith as well.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Thomas Cochran
There's a number of reasons a mormon might tell you why we dont drink coffee or tea (i.e.: It's bad for you, It's addicting). MY main reason for not doing it and probably the most important reason is that the prophet said so, and by extension we believe that God said so. Doubt may stem from reasons why and some may disagree with them completely. But we must accept that Heavenly Father knows infinitely more than we do and He knows whats best for us better than we do ourselves. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Thomas Cochran
Our families are so important because the fulness of hapiness that we desire from salvation is gained through our families. We can be saved all we want for ourselves but it wouldn't mean much to me personally if my family wasn't there. Show more Show less
