Hi I'm Destiny

I'm a dreamer. I'm a world traveler. I founded an organization to empower Deaf worldwide. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've always been a dreamer. When I was a kid I wrote up a huge bucket list from sleeping in a castle to learning how to juggle to reading the Iliad and the Odyssey. I worked towards these dreams daily, step-by-step, and found joy in pursuing my life goals. Near the end of my college career I traveled the world via the Semester at Sea program. The Lord helped me meet Deaf leaders in nearly every country I visited. They told me of their desires to better their nations despite the stigma surrounding deafness in their countries that many times limited their opportunities. The Lord lead me to found The Deaf Dream, an organization that empowers Deaf to reach their life goals. Since that time, I have traveled even more and have found that there is something better in life than achieving your own goals: helping others achieve their ultimate dreams.

Why I am a Mormon

I ask questions. A lot of questions. Mormonism encourages its members to ask God and receive answers. I know the Lord knew I needed to be in a church that welcomed a "find out for yourself" mentality. So how did I know Mormonism is the true church of God? I prayed and asked the Lord myself. After reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon and seeing how they compliment and clarify each other, I asked my Heavenly Father if this church was true and if this was where I was supposed to be my entire life. He answered! He sent me peace while I read the Book of Mormon. He sent me happiness when I associated with my LDS friends. He sent me patience during my struggles. He sent me His love when I needed to know He was there. This church is true because I asked and He answered that this was HIS church. And that was just the beginning of my questions...

How I live my faith

As I travel, I am able to visit and serve in the Mormon branches (congregations) of the church. I have felt the strong faith of LDS members worldwide. What a blessing it is to learn the same truths and feel the same spirit no matter where I attend! I have been blessed to be involved in missionary work. I was able to serve a full-time mission in Hungary. When I became ill and had to return home to recuperate, I was blessed to become a service missionary and help people work on their family history. I have been able to teach Mission Prep classes and serve as a branch missionary in Istanbul. Wherever I go, I am strengthened by members who give their all to the Lord. No matter their struggles, weaknesses, backgrounds, we are brothers and sisters who help each other get through the ups-and-downs of life!

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

One of the goals of Mormon members is to be able to ask questions and receive answers from God. We know that communication with our Heavenly Father comes through the Holy Spirit. So we do everything in our power to make sure that we can feel that spirit all the time. Substances that enslave our bodies to addiction block the influences of the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to hear the quiet promptings from our Heavenly Father if we are doing drugs or full of alcohol. While we may not yet understand fully how these substances cause harm to our bodies and spirits, we need His guidance everyday to get through this life. LDS choose to follow His counsel to rid our bodies of things that inhibit the Spirit of the Lord. Show more Show less
