Hi I'm Maddy

I have six fantastic younger siblings. I love perfectly textured words and making people smile. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Madeleine, but more often I respond to Maddy, Madge, Mads, M-dawg, Madagascar, Magic or Madjalee. Take your pick. These are a few of my favorite things: Julie Andrews, long walks to nowhere in particular, swing dancing on Saturday nights, roller coasters, making lists, eating dinner with my family, picnics on the roof with my friends, heart-to-heart conversations with people I love, and making things beautiful. I just finished up my first year at BYU, and I love that campus with all of my heart. I plan to apply to the public relations program in a year and a half when I return from my eighteen-month excursion to Finland.

Why I am a Mormon

I have learned through experience that when I keep God's commandments I am lead to help and happiness. His gospel is one of Charity, family, selflessness, repentance and hope. In serving his children, I have felt his love for them, and the love he has for me. I know that his son, Jesus Christ was sent to earth to be our savior. He lived and died that we might live with God again. He atoned for our sins and in doing so experienced every moment we have ever lived. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and when we mess up, he reminds us of our ability and potential. He is the light and the life of the world, and I feel that light slipping into my life when I turn to him.

How I live my faith

Sometimes, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. God has blessed me with a beautiful family, friends who have taught me how to live selflessly, and a knowledge of the incredible plan of happiness he has for each of his children. It's amazing to me that I can kneel before bed every night and send a message right up to the doors of heaven--that there is someone there on the other side who listens and understands. The knowledge that I have a Father in Heaven who is aware of me has affected even the dustiest corners of my existence. I wish everyone could have the chance to embrace that understanding, because it is the happiest thing I have experienced in life! I can FEEL him in my life. It´s a peace and joy that is empowering. Back in November, I decided that, more than anything, I wanted to share this message of God's love with as many people as possible. I wanted to dedicate my time to sharing my testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and of the Book of Mormon. I have accepted the call from a modern prophet of God to serve a mission in Helsinki, Finland.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Think of what makes you the most happy - that one thing that just brings you inexplicable joy. Doesn't it just make you smile inside to think about sharing that with other people? That's why I'm serving a mission. I'm out here because I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is not an individual thing. Joy is not an individual thing. It's something that begs to be shared and multiplied. I want everyone I meet to be able to feel the love and confidence their Father in Heaven has for them, and to know that they are never alone. There is a scripture in the Book of Mormon, which I think sums up what the gospel feels like pretty well. It reads, "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world ... which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, and would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God." I am definitely not perfect, but I know what I have felt as I have tried to follow the Savoir, and it is HOPE. He has blessed me with understanding and trust in trials, and a little taste of the love he feels. Christ told his disciples, "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the father, and he shall give unto you another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. Even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot recieve, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless; I will come unto you." Show more Show less
