Hi I'm Alexis

I am an University of Nevada- Las Vegas women's soccer player, serving an LDS mission in Little Rock Arkansas. and I'm a Mormon!!

About Me

Hey!! My name is Alexis! I was born on October 21 in Bountiful Utah; to my loving parents Andrea and David. I am a member of the University of Nevada- Las Vegas women's soccer team, and got to finish up an amazing freshman year in spring of 2013. I play forward and have 4 career goals thus far, with 23/24 game appearances. I also enjoy all sorts of physical activities. In high school I lettered in cheerleading, soccer, and track! Getting 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles for track my senior year at state while grabbing the school record in the 300 meter hurdles and the 4 by 400 meter dash. I also enjoy hiking, boating, traveling, photography, painting, drawing, snowboarding, and long drives in the mountains! I am now taking a break from soccer and my home life, and serving a mission! However, upon my return I will head back to Vegas and finish my soccer up there!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have personally come to know that this the one and only true restored gospel. The concepts practiced and taught aren't only to help me to return to Christ, but are in place to help me be my best and reach my full potential. Nothing in the Gospel is meant to hold you back, but to give you wings to fly forward! I know that my family can be sealed together for all time and eternity through the sealings of the Temple. I want that everlasting happiness that our Lord promises us if we live the way we are taught through his attonment and mercy.I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. That knowledge didn't come by just reading it once, but with reading, pondering, and praying to know the truth I received that answer for myself.

How I live my faith

Being a part of an universities athletic team it is hard to figure out time for pretty much anything else. But I have made an extra effort to stay close to my Heavenly Father so that I know I am always worthy to be in his presence! I make sure to read my scriptures and pray to me loving Heavenly Father every night! I have not missed a day since July 31, 2012! I am also a teacher for a class during our church block to the women of the ward. I love being a teacher because not only do I get to stand in front of such beautiful women but I get to really study the lesson material and it has helped me grow so much! No matter what situation I am in, I try and always think "If Christ was watching me, would I feel comfortable doing what I am doing?" it seems to always keep me in the right so I am doing what I know keeps me in the right light!

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Alexis
If Mormons only help Mormons then I am not sure 99% of Mormons are following that.. We help everyone! Everyone are children of God, just because they aren't of the Mormon faith doesn't mean we don't love them! That is what missionaries whole job is, to help the people of their area. Missionaries are CALLED TO SERVE so if you EVER need help, contact the missionaries! They will be there to do whatever you need in a heart beat with smiles on their faces! Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Alexis
Is it required to serve a mission? Nope! But if you just ate the most delicious cake ever, don't you want to tell everyone about it? Same thing! I know that the Church of Jesus Christ contains the fullness of the gospel of Christ, and can I say it "tastes" soooo good! Missions are not required, however it is strongly encouraged for young adult males and graciously welcomed for young adult females. Missionaries can also be older men and women as well as couples. When you submit to the church that you would like to go, you are assigned by Apostles of God to where in the world you will be serving! Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Alexis
Joseph Smith grew up just like any other kid in the 1800's. He was born in 1805 in Vermont. Grew up going to church but never feeling complete. So when reading in the Bible one day, James 1:5 stuck out to him and it said that if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God. So he did!! And when he did that is where he had his First Vision, where the Son of God, Jesus, and God the Father appeared to him. Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God. Just like Adam or Moses, Joseph was called to be the mouth piece from the heavens to help guide and direct the people. And to be an instrument to God in restoring the Church back on the earth according to the Lord's will, exactly how He had established it when He was on the earth. Show more Show less
