Hi I'm Michael Kelly

I'm from Ireland and now live and work in the United Kingdom as a Facilities Manager and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I lived most of my life in Ireland where I grew up in a wonderful family environment with my Mom, Dad and fourteen brothers and sisters. Now I am married, and my wife who is from Norway and I have five children, all of whom are boys. We lived in a rural area just on the outskirts of our town called Limerick where we enjoyed the nature about us and the community of friends we got to know. I worked in Ireland as a building contractor but now work as a Facilities Manager responsible for a number of church buildings in the south east of England where we now call home. Some of my interrests are football, snooker, and all sports really, but also I love all things to do with aircraft and trains. I have studied at university for a degree in Human Resource Management which I found very fulfilling and rewarding. Education is important to me and I am glad of the opportunity to learn new skills and abilities. I enjoy the out doors where I have spent most of my working life and in engaging in outdoor pursuits. Family is really important to me and am grateful for the things I have learnt in life from my wife and teenage children. I now have grown to really appreciate my own parents and what they have done for my brothers and sisters and me, as my wife and I raise our own children..

Why I am a Mormon

Since the first time I walked in to a church meeting I have felt something really special. I really felt that this was the place that I should be. I can't properly explain it but I just felt this overwhelming feeling that this is the place God wants me to be. Since that first meeting I have come to know for myself that this is the church of Jesus Christ and that it is the church he wants me to be a part of. It has helped me and my family throughout our lives to find greater purpose to life, to feel a closeness to God and also to experience and feel greater peace in our minds and hearts in these troubled times. Becoming a member of the church and living by its christian precepts has been the best decision that I have made. My name is Michael Kelly and this is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The church plays an important part of my life. It is an every day thing for me and my wife. We both have worked serving in the men's and women's organisations of the church. Because in the church we have a lay Priesthood we are invited from time to time to take leading roles in the church. I have had this opportunity to serve as the local pastor of our community. I have found that this has helped me gain a greater appreciation of Jesus Christ and has helped me to become a better person I believe. I have had the opportunity to work with the young people in the church by getting involved in organising and running their activities such as camping, sports and other educational pursuits. I have also been asked to be a record keeper assigned to keep roles and financial records which has helped me learn some good office skills. I have also had the opportunity to serve as a young missionary in California, just like the guys you see going around in their suits, ties and black badges. I love going to church each week and meeting my friends there. I always feel very at home there and always feel such a peaceful and welcoming presence when I attend the meetings.
