Hi I'm Reika

I love simplicity and balance. I love art and science. I believe that God sends angels everyday, and I'm a Mormon :)

About Me

I am a college student, preparing to become a doctor. I really like the idea of becoming a pediatrician right now. I never thought I would strive to become a scientist. I was pretty sure that I would do something art related because that was my life growing up. I did ballet, I played the violin, and I loved drawing and painting--and I thought that would be my life. But somehow I found that my appreciation for art can gain more depth with a scientific understanding, and now I’m headed toward the medical field. I decided I wanted to be a doctor during my freshman year of college, and I realized that if I were to get married, I would have to find someone who would and could support me in my decision to become a physician. I am lucky that I found more than a supportive husband, but also a very smart study buddy as well. My husband and I officially met in our organic chemistry class. We get the “you guys have chemistry” joke quite a bit--which is great because I love puns and cheesy jokes. We’re coming to our first year of marriage. Our majors are the same, so we take our classes together, and study together. We are applying to medical school, and trying to get into the same school. It’s a scary process, getting one person accepted seems hard enough--we want two people in the same school. But we know that if we have faith, and we do all that we can, we will get there somehow.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church but I was not CONVERTED. There was a point in my life where I became frustrated with my existance. I was extremely unhappy. There was a part of my being that desired for change, but there was also a part of me that liked being miserable. The result was nothing. I stayed just where I was. I changed my perspective completely when I realized my passiveness in life. I was waiting for someone else to change me, someone to come and “save me”. But I needed to take that step forward. I needed to reach out to my Savior, who is the only one who could truly save me. Since then, although I have struggled with various frustrations, and obstacles, I have learned that happiness comes through service, through the expression of the love of God, something that I have learned to accept for myself. This love that I have felt from my Heavenly Father, is something that has brought me so much joy, that I have had a great desire to share with all those around me. I know that my Heavenly Father is OUR Heavenly Father. We are his children. He loves us as a perfect Father who watches over us in Heaven. He knows each of us by name; he is the only one who knows us completely without our need to explain. He accepts us completely. He waits for us to reach to him for help. It is through his Son, Jesus Christ and his Atonement that we can achieve progress.

How I live my faith

I am currently a missionary! I love dedicating my time to serve the Lord. There are difficulties, just as life always has, but I feel strengthened and able to do more. I feel the blessings as I strive to share with my heavenly brothers and sisters the love that our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ have for them. Part of the mission is to leave all you have behind, but I feel blessed for it. I will improve, I will be crafted by the master during my time of service. I believe that the sacrifices that my family and I have made to serve the Lord will return in a full bloom of blessings.
