Hi I'm Shelby

I really love being alive, the color yellow, traveling, art, all things outdoors, children, and carbs. Most of all, the gospel!

About Me

I'm a 21-year-old full-time missionary. I participated in theatre and worked with my special needs friends all through high school. I'm a sucker for anything art history or travel related. I'm the baby girl in the world's funniest family of five, with two older sisters and my cute parents. I spent five months sophomore year of college living in China, teaching English. I fell in love with those beautiful people, found members of my eternal family, and learned so much! (And maybe spent the plane ride home planning the next adventure.) I love hiking, biking, reading, writing, and all things happy and lovely. But most of all, I love sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, all day every day! I am a follower of Christ!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family, but the choice was always left up to me. Whether I wanted to be baptized at age eight, whether I wanted to do the various projects to advance in young womens, whether I wanted to attend camps, youth activities, etc. I am a Mormon because it is makes me happiest. Because when things get dark, the Plan of Salvation gives me perspective - that there is more to life than what's immediately before me, and that there is a loving parent guiding it all. I am a Mormon because the knowledge that I am never alone, that I am never unloved, that I am always of worth and significance - that I am a Daughter of God with divine birthright and potential, known by the almighty God - is vital to my identity, and to my view of everyone else around me. I am a Mormon because it brings me closest to my best and truest friend - my Savior. I am a Mormon because God has given us the fullness of the gospel and I want to live it and give it. Because I love it. Because it is real! I am a Mormon because it is TRUE. This is Christ's truth, and He loves us enough to descend below all things, share any burden, bring us back from any distance, and let us claim His truth as ours, too.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be as much like Christ as I can be. I live my faith by trying to listen to the Spirit to know what that will mean for the day, and having the courage to act on it. Living our faith is simple; sometimes it means a smile to someone on campus, striking up a conversation with someone on the bus, calling a friend who pops into my head, sharing a scripture or a talk that inspires me, but always, always giving His love and His light to others. Everything we have is because of Him, and we have a responsibility to share that with all our brothers and sisters, with every solitary second we are given. The worth of souls is so, so great, and there is not a moment or opportunity to lose! Right now, I am living my faith as a full-time missionary in Minnesota - because I love the Lord and He loves these people!
