Hi I'm Jake

I'm an Idaho potato farmer! I am a missionary Down Under! I speak Tongan! I'm a Mormon!!

About Me

I'm a very easy-going person! I like just about everything! I am currently serving a mission in Sydney Australia and it is awesome! I was raised on a potato farm in Idaho and really learned how to work hard. My dad is my role model and he really set the example for me of how to work hard and be a good man. And yes I know...pretty typical being from Idaho and being associated with potatoes. Well personally my favorite thing in the world is without a doubt my family. My family is a little different with the fact that i'm 14 years younger than my next closest sibling. So my siblings are kind of like additional sets of parents only with a more brotherly or sisterly feel.... My first nephew was born when I was 5 years old and it has been so fun to have a "little brother". That's how my nieces and nephews are to me! They are all like little siblings. I love spending time with my family whether it be a huge family get-together or just me and my dad on the farm. Family is everything.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church and I am so grateful for that. I love this Church and the gospel it teaches. Everything that is related to this church gets me excited about being able to spread the gospel on my mission. It has been a real blessing in my life to have grown up around such constant love from everyone in my life and it has really shown me how to love others. I know that God loves us because we are His children and He wants all of us to go home to Him. I know that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees and was able to bring to pass the true gospel to the world. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and I have been blessed to have that in my life. I know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that all may be saved from destruction on the last day and we can be cleansed from our sins. I know that Christ can feel what we feel through the Atonement and that He is always there for us in times of need.

How I live my faith

I am currently a missionary in the Australia Sydney North Mission. I live my faith by applying the principles of the gospel in my life. Church attendance, reading scriptures, and praying daily have really helped me to have the Spirit in my life.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

So I like to think of it like this: Say I have a massive bag of delicious candy. Its my favorte candy and I want everyone I see try it to see if they will like it. That is the same principle behind us proselyting! We have this gospel and it has brought such great joy in our lives we want to be able to share it with EVERYONE! Christ asked Peter "Peter Do you love me?" Peter said "yes" and Christ said, "Feed my sheep." This is another reason why we proseltye! We love Jesus Christ and if we do love Him we will do what he asked Peter to do, feed His sheep, or in other words, spread His gospel and love to every kindred, tongue, and people! I am currently a missionary and I enjoy virtually every second of it. Witnessing the gospel we teach help change lives is truly amazing. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

It is very simple really. Anything sexual outside of marriage is no good. This includes sex before marriage, pornography, masturbation, and adultery. Also the Law of Chastity tells us to keep our thought clean and virtuous. Also to dress modestly. We shouldn't mock or provoke anything sexual. Only between a man and his wife should there ever be a sexual relationship. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

The Bible was the thing that led Joseph Smith to pray and have his vision of Christ and the Father. So obviously the Bible is important. We believe in the Bible because it testifies of Christ and also contains His ministry in Jerusalem and the Old World. The Bible was written by prophets and helps us to better understand how to return and live with God. We do not only read from the Book of Mormon. We use the Bible as well. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is an ancient set of scripture that testifies of Jesus Christ and His Divinity. The Book of Mormon is a collaboration of writings from ancient prophets that lived on the American continent from about 600 B.C. to 421 A.D. Also it contains writings from another people who left the Tower of Babel and came to the Americas much before the former. All these writing testify that Jesus is the Christ and that He does love each and everyone of us. In the Book of Mormon Christ shows himself to the inhabitants of the Americas after his Resurrection. The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the gospel and can enlarge our understanding of the gospel. It is proof that God continues to call prophets. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. And if we pray and ask God if it is a true book, He will answer you by the power of the Holy Ghost and you will feel that it is true. You will also know by that same power that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Christ's church is once again on the earth. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No we aren't required to serve at all! We volunteer to go and the Church sends us where they feel inspired to send us. We consider it an honor to be able to represent the Lord and be able to have Jesus Christ's name right by our own name on our badges. We serve because we love everything the Christ has done for us, and we want to spread His love to everyone on the earth. Show more Show less

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

To not do it. The Church's stand on abortion is strongly against. Except in cases where the mother's life is in danger or if the pregnancy is due to rape would an abortion be appropriate. Also the approval from medical specialists, church leaders, and personal revelation through sincere prayer is needed to know if it's necessary. Show more Show less
