Hi I'm Spencer

Cartoonist, basketball player, adventure addict, and... I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I have been a member of the church my entire life. I was born in Tucson, Arizona, and soon took off on my journey to Utah. I have grown up with three sisters and one brother, as well as my mom and dad. They are some pretty crazy and very incredible people! I owe a great deal to the way that they raised me! I am off on my own now in the freezing plains of Alberta. I absolutely love it here! I love to meet new people, go on adventures, and make memories. Its great to see how God takes a part in every aspect of our lives!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the experiences I have had in my life. I've had the same questions that most have had. What is true? Which way is right? Which church should I be part of? I started asking these questions for myself and seeking answers to them. I started searching the Book of Mormon, and really praying about it. I learned from God that it was true. That was just the start of me finding answers. I've learned that God is there, that Jesus is the Christ, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints truly is Christ's church. And I know that anyone who seeks those answers in their lives will find them for themselves. I am a Mormon because of the answers I've received through my prayers to God.

How I live my faith

I love doing fun little things to show my faith! Whether that be smiling and waving at strangers to helping the neighbors weed their yard! It can be fun to act in the spur of the moment. Once my sister and I brought donuts to road workers, another time I picked up the neighbor's kids to take them home from school. It can be an adventure to find little ways ever day to show your faith.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Spencer
We are all human, and because of that we can make mistakes and we can die. Christ made it possible for us to overcome both. He took upon every pain, sickness, sorrow, and suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, and because of that we can overcome our mistakes and also death. If we go through the repentance process and truly repent of our sins we can be forgiven. Christ also overcame death, the separation of the body and spirit, and was the first to be resurrected, which is the reuniting of the body and spirit forever. We are all promised to be resurrected. Forgiveness of our sins is promised to us if we sincerely repent. If we do not sincerely repent we cannot live with our Heavenly Father again, which is why we need a Savior. Repentance can bring us great happiness and joy. Christ and His Atonement can bring us joy. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Spencer
The Book of Mormon began around 600 B.C., was originally written on golden plates, and was started by the prophet Lehi. Lehi and his family lived in Jerusalem, and were led by God to come to the Americas. Nephi was then given the gold plates, and they were handed down from prophet to prophet. These writings are the history of the ancient Americas and more importantly another testament of Jesus Christ. They tell of the plan of salvation, which is God's plan for us, of Jesus Christ and his visit to the Americas after His mortal ministry, the Atonement, and many other aspects of the gospel. We are challenged to read the Book of Mormon with real intent then to ask Heavenly Father if they are true. I know that God hears and answers our prayers because He has answered mine. I know through the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that anyone who reads it with a sincere heart and real intent can find that truth for themselves. What is faith?

Spencer
Faith is often regarded as belief, but it is much stronger. Faith in Christ is a belief that He lives and performed the Atonement, which leads us to want to become like Him and to use the Atonement. We have faith as we learn of God, put our trust in Him and follow His commandments. It is really the foundation to our lives. It can lead our life in the direction that Christ would have us take. Faith in Christ can help you endure trials. It can help you to be happier. I would even argue that it makes you healthier. As we have faith, repent, and try to live our lives as Christ would we will find pure joy. Read Alma 32 from the Book of Mormon to learn more about faith. Show more Show less
