Hi I'm Graca

I grew up in Portugal. I'm a mum of four married with a great man. I'm a Mormon and I love it

About Me

I was born in Mozambique in 1972. My mum and dad went there to look for new opportunities but they had to went back to Portugal after the Revolution of 25 of April of 1974. I grew up in Portugal with my two older brothers. I had a happy childhood surrounded with good neighbours in a sunny city called Setubal with beautiful beaches and amazing landscapes. When I was 13 years old, my cousin already a mormon invited me to a church activity. I really enjoyed and asked if I could come another time since I felt like I was among family and very welcomed. I started to receive the missionary's lessons and was baptised on the 26 of January of 1986. Since then, It's been a learning curve in the Gospel. My youth was great with Mormon friends and church leaders that helped through the normal trials you face when you are a teenager. Eventually I met my husband in youth activities and we got married in 1994. we were married for almost 3 years when our first son was born. Then we had 3 more children. They are my treasures and I'm really proud of them. Me and my husband always had to work hard to provide the well being to our family. In 2008 we decided to move to England to look for better jobs and new opportunities. We have been living here since then where our last son was born in 2009. Since I came to England, I discovered a passion for plants and landscapes, and currently I'm studying a Foundation degree in Landscape and Garden Design at UCS - Otley which I'm loving!!!!

Why I am a Mormon

When I visited the church for the first time, I felt so good among all the members. they made me fell very welcomed, so I decided to accept to hear what the missionaries had to share with me. I felt a strong feeling that everything that I needed to be happy I would find in the Church. Everything seemed to fit in the right place, when I was with the missionaries. They answered my questions and I was satisfied with all that I received so far. when they asked me if I wanted to be baptised, a feeling of great happiness filled my heart and I knew it was the right decision to make, despite my young age (13). Right after the moment of my baptism and confirmation I felt so "light" as if my feet didn't had to touch the ground! I felt I could fly, so happy I was! Since then, I've learned so much with other church members, with the scriptures and with personal prayer. I know this is the true church. I know that my Saviour lives and that through His Atonement we can live with our Heavenly Family again. I love to go the Temple and participate in ordinances that can helps us to live worthily in our everyday life. Temples provide a way to unite families through all eternity and I know that if we prove to be faithful, we can live together forever as families.

How I live my faith

One of the things that I really enjoy at church is the opportunity that we have to serve each other with our time talents and skills. I've had many opportunities to work with children, youth and women at church. I've helped the children by organizing activities or teaching lessons that helps them to build a testimony of the Saviour Jesus Christ. Sometimes I was very close to young women helping them to live according to our standards and sometimes, like now, I teach a Sunday lesson every month to adult women of my ward. Those lessons are a great opportunity for all the women at church to participate, learn and share their stories and testimonies about Jesus Christ, the Gospel and their everyday life. One other thing that I really enjoy is that we can teach the Gospel in our own family. We participate in Family Home Evenings every Monday evening where we share our thoughts, our testimonies about the Gospel, where we spend some time playing with each other in a relaxing atmosphere. I love to spend time with my family doing recreational activities, like visiting a park or going to the cinema among others. Prayer is part of our daily life and we rely on our Heavenly Father to help us going through every moment, good or bad that we face.
