Hi I'm Emily

I'm a 20 year old missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loving life, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I finished my sophomore year of college and am putting my education on hold for awhile to serve a mission for the church. Some things I enjoy doing are writing, reading, singing, playing guitar, swimming, camping, fishing, hiking, and just being outside in general. I write music and that's been a way that I've learned to really express myself. I love to laugh and I probably spend 90% of my time doing that. I love to spend time with my family and friends. My family is the most important thing to me, and they have gotten me through a lot. I don't think I would be the person I am today if I was raised in another family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to be happy. The way that I have found happiness is through my faith and living the teachings of this church. I am a Mormon because I have an amazing family who I want to spend eternity with, and I know that there is no other way for that to be possible than by living the gospel. I am a Mormon because Jesus Christ died for me, for my sins, for my sadness, for my worries; and I know He did that for a reason. I believe that reason is for me to spend my time on Earth becoming more like Him. I am a Mormon because nothing makes me happier. Going to church on Sunday, reading my scriptures, being able to talk to my Heavenly Father who ALWAYS understands, has brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined experiencing. I know that there is more joy to come, joy that will last forever-not just a moment- if I follow the commandments of God. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the church my entire life, but I never fully converted to the gospel until my first semester at BYU-Idaho. I am continuing this process of conversion every day. Growing up in the church, I took it for granted a lot. I didn't know what a gift it was until I left home. Living on my own-even at a church school-I had to decide what I truly believed and what my standards were. I began to develop a testimony of the happiness that comes from living the gospel. In October of 2012, President Monson announced that the age that girls can serve missions had been changed to 19. Coincidentally I was 19. There had been a lot of experiences previous to this that made me think serving a mission was right for me. After months of prayer, I started my papers and received my call to Fortaleza, Brazil. I am currently serving in the Washington D.C. South Mission while I wait for my visa. The reason why I chose to serve a mission is because I have been blessed to have the gospel my entire life and I have experienced so much joy through living my religion. I have a wonderful family who never stops loving me. I want others to have the opportunity to spend eternity with their family. I also chose to serve a mission because I know that this is the true church and nothing brings greater happiness than knowing that truth and living according to that belief.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I never understood how reading the scriptures (The Book of Mormon and Bible) could help me. As I began thinking about serving a mission, I realized I hadn't studied the scriptures very much. Definitely not enough to go tell other people to study them! So I began to read my scriptures every day. I saw a change in my life. I was happier, things just seemed to work out for me. I felt a desire to read my scriptures that I'd never felt before. I would find verses that would help me with things like school, friends, and family. The Book of Mormon is especially helpful in my life. I find new things each time I study and I feel the love of God enter into my life. Show more Show less
