Hi I'm Helen

I'm a wife, mother and a believer in the Saviour Jesus Christ. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a busy Mum, looking after 5 children and helping them to develop talents and interests. I love to read books and enjoy attending a monthly book club. I did an English Literature degree at Manchester University and have continued with my love of books. I enjoy exercise and try to get out into the countryside for a run three times a week. I love being out in the fresh air, on my own, surrounded by nature. I enjoy music, especially when it's live and try to attend a few concerts a year. I can play the piano and the guitar a little. I encourage my children to choose an instrument to play when they turn eight so our house is often filled with musical sound. The rest of my time is spent taking my children to their various activities and trying to spend quality time with each of them and my husband too of course!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the idea that this life is a test and is supposed to be a progression towards something beautiful and eternal. I love having something to aim for and the aim for me is to live with my family and God after this life ends. I find joy and peace when I rely on the Lord and his will for me. I feel the spirit when I read the scriptures and attend church. I know that the Saviour lives, that he died so that we could live with him again and be forgiven for the many things that we do wrong. We, as children of God are not supposed to be perfect all at once and all of the time. We are here because He knew we would make mistakes and He has provided for that eventuality. I find great comfort in this truth. The Book of Mormon contains plain gospel truths. It talks of repentance, baptism, the atonement, forgiveness and love. It is a companion to The Bible and if we read from the scriptures each day we will have great comfort and happiness. I am a Mormon because I know that Joseph Smith was a latter day prophet and he restored the fulness of the gospel in these last days. I am a Mormon because I love my family, I want to be the best I can be for them and I want our family to be able to have lasting peace, joy and happiness.

How I live my faith

My faith impacts my life every day. It helps me to try to become a better mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and citizen. Being a Mormon has helped me to come into contact with people from many different countries, of different ages and backgrounds. It has made my character much more well rounded. I currently have a responsibility in our ward to watch over the teenage girls aged between 12-18. This responsibility involves a wide range of factors including teaching lessons on a Sunday and organising weekly activities from sports to craft and service projects. I help the girls to develop their characters and understand their duties as women in the world today. Our lesson topics vary widely from scripture discussion to health codes and issues of self worth. I enjoy service projects in our local community including singing at the old peoples home, litter picking at the park and knitting for charity.
