Hi I'm Gavin Butler

I'm Californian. I like science and stuff like that.... and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 20 and a student at Brigham Young University. I love to play Volleyball, and pretty much any other sport. I am currently studying Biology, and intend on attending Medical School. I longboard.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this is what has brought me closest to God. When I was growing up, I often wondered if there was a life after death. My parents raised me believing in God and His plan for our families to live together, but did I really believe it? As years passed and the time for me to really find out for myself arrived, I was a little afraid. What if I couldn't bring myself to believe in all this? I resorted to serious study, reflection, and heartfelt prayer. I began praying vocally, even if it felt awkward at the start. I started making promises to God and looked for answers in the Book of Mormon. I didn't give up. I wouldn't be giving God credit if I attributed the understanding and answers I was receiving to one singular occurrence. Over time God showed me that this was the truth. Little answers to prayer here and a big miracle there all testified of the same thing: God is my Heavenly Father; I am His son. He loves me. The Book of Mormon is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. Acting on these answers has brought into my life innumerable reasons why I remain a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be a better person. I am far from perfect, but I hope I am headed in the right direction. I live my faith by doing basic things that my Mom raised me doing: reading scriptures in the morning, going to church, trying my best to pay attention in church, helping others, praying. These things really have filled my life with a happiness that I have not found elsewhere. When I find myself facing a seemingly insurmountable challenge, my faith that gets me through it. I find faith in everyday life through observation. The sun breaking through a blanket of clouds, a baby's laughter, and the immensity of the star-spangled night sky fill me with an abiding trust that there is One behind it all. As I have continued to experience life, my faith in God has grown tremendously. With each opportunity to prove my faith by being a good person, I feel a drop in the reservoir of faith I simply can't live without.
