Hi I'm Ian

I returned to activity in the church when I was 20 and it was the best decision I have ever made. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am 22 years old and getting ready to head out to the mission field in a couple weeks. I have been attending college up until this point, I am majoring in business/philosophy. I worked at an elementary school with special education children and it was the best job that I have ever had. When I was twelve, I stopped attending church, I had too many qualms with the people there and certain aspects of the doctrine. When I was 19, I moved away from home and decided I should go to church just so I could meet some people in the area, later that week I had a strong impression that I should read the Book of Mormon and immediately upon finishing, I got on my knees and started praying to Heavenly Father for help in overcoming my struggles. Life since then hasn't always been easy, but it has never been more worth it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, because it is the only thing that has gotten me through life. Every time I have a struggle, I know that I can turn to the Lord and he will guide and direct me to where I ought to go. At first, I struggled with the concept of Joseph Smith and having another set of scripture, but as I have studied and prayed, they have just started to make sense. Why wouldn't God have prophets on the Earth today to guide and direct us? Why would there only be one set of scripture, from only one people, if so many people have lived on the Earth? Did God just ignore all the rest of His children? Absolutely not, God loves each and everyone of us and wants all of us now, just as He wanted everyone in the past, to have His word, and this is the truth that I get from being a Mormon. Heavenly Father loves and cares for each one of us and He wants what is best for us, I have found what is best for me through His restored church on the Earth today.

How I live my faith

While active in my ward, I was on the "welcoming committee", I was in charge of helping new members transfer their records into the ward and welcoming everyone as they came. It was rewarding to be the first person that these people saw when they came to church, just being able to greet them with a smile and help them know that they are in a place of love. Now as I have progressed, I am preparing to serve a mission in Dallas Texas. I feel that it is the logical next step for me, I will be able to share this love and joy that I feel from the gospel and it is the least that I can do, for everything that the Lord has done for me in my life.
