Hi I'm Steve

I'm a married father of two, a trainee accountant and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Glasgow and am the youngest of five kids. Over the years I have studied both art/design, sound engineering and now I am studying accountancy. I currently work for an investment firm as a trainee accountant. Is it sad that I love excel spreadsheets? My interests are first and foremost family time. I love my wife and kids. They are the best things that ever happened to me. From early in my childhood I have loved art and music, especially funk music, although I can't play a note on any instrument. I like reading classic novels and religious literature, not specific to a single religion though. My wife says I'm funny, and I agree but I'm not sure we are using the same definition of the word.

Why I am a Mormon

As with all religions, some people learn about the church in adulthood and some are born into the Mormon faith because their parents are members. My parents joined the church in the 60's, but there comes a time where you have to ask questions for yourself. I have gone through some challenges that have made me want to find my own answers. I came to a very basic conclusion early on that I had a feeling inside that there was a purpose to life. The world and all the people in it are so full of beauty and potential that it has to be by design. From there it was about asking questions to find out what that purpose was. There are truths and helpful teachings in most faiths or belief systems, but after a lot of searching, the principles taught by The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints feel right and they leave it up to you to test and seek answers. I know Jesus Christ as my Saviour. He died for our sins so we can be better people and fulfil the purpose of our lives. I don't know exactly how that works, but my life experiences give me a personal knowledge that it does. God works with anyone and everyone because he loves all of his children, but there is an ultimate truth to be found. The Church and faith encourages me to be myself; my best self. Faith in a God that loves me and a Saviour who can make up the difference where I fail is a great motivator. I am encouraged to learn, ask questions, make my own decisions, live a full life and realise my full potential.

How I live my faith

The simple ways I live my faith are through daily prayer and daily reading in the scriptures. These can be as quick or as long as you like and it does differ from day to day. These two things just help keep an appropriate focus on life. Other than this I currently teach an adult Sunday school class every week in Dunfermline. It's a real challenge but that's what makes it good. Through reading the Bible, the Book of Mormon, attending church and seeking to help everyone I try to understand and act like Jesus Christ. I try to make good choices and do the things I feel are right. I'm not always successful but I try for my own well being and for my family. As Mormons we are taught to follow those things that feel right and are good. I try to listen to those feelings and promptings as I believe they are from the Holy Ghost. These answers are special and specifically for me. Evidences of spiritual things when received are of equal quality, if not more convincing at times than scientific evidences.
